Amitabh Bachchan Is Upset With Raavan’s Editor

by admin on June 25, 2010

Amitabh Bachchan is said to be very upset with the editor of Raavan.

Whereas the general perception has been that one of the major reason behind the average showing of Raavan is the poor performance by Abhishek Bachchan, Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan has blamed poor editing, which did not allow Abhishek character to develop the way it should have, as the reason for the film’s debacle at the box office.

Mr. Bachchan said that the film has been edited in such a way that the Abishek’s erratic behavior, which was suppose to highlight his character and take the film forward was chopped-off during the final editing of the film and this has ultimately affected the film adversely.

Mr. Bachchan while mentioning about Raavan in a post on social networking site Twitter wrote, “Lot of merited film edited out, which has caused inconsistent performance and narrative. Abhishek’s erratic behavior was due to symbolic 10 heads visually appearing and each giving him different attitudes to adopt for a situation, he would then finally shake them off to decide.”

Mr. Bachchan continues, “It’s sad; in the edit you only get to see the after effect of that thinking process, hence inconsistent. In the edit all the visual heads got cut and you see a confused Beera expression and wonder why.”

Though Mr. Bachchan is a is a very respected personality in Bollywood and people in the industry care about his views, it seems this time around he has been caught on the wrong foot with not many takers of his views. This was apparent when commenting on Mr. Bachchan’s remarks about poor editing, Raavan’s cinematographer Santosh Sivan said “I personally think everyone is entitled to have their own opinion. At the end of the day, it’s the director’s decision.”

Film critics and trade analyst Taran Adarsh also feels that Mr. Bachchan may not be absolutely right in his opinion. He says, ”Editing can only improve the performance of an actor. But the problem with Raavan is that it suffers due to bad script and screenplay. Editing has a very limited role in correcting those limitations.”

It seems Mr Bachchan had high hopes from Raavan. Now after the film has done average business, by accusing the editor, he is just playing the blame game.
