Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Sonu Nigam are ready to clash on royalty issue.
Producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra may be at an all time high with his latest film 3 Idiots breaking all records and grossing around Rs. 375 crore worldwide, but he is not having a very good time on a personal front. After running into problems with writer Chetan Bhagat and a few journalists, he is now having a clash with Bollywood playback singer Sonu Nigam.
Vidhu and Sonu are at war over the royalty issues of the songs of 3 Idiots, which have done well all-around and earned a huge amount as royalty. The two had a serious argument when Sonu asked for an increase in share of musicians including the music directors and singers in the royalty that the producers earn from the sale of music rights.
Reports suggest that at a meeting where both Vidhu and Sonu were present, the playback singer asked that 50% of the royalty from the sale of music rights of the film, should be paid respectively to the singer and the music director, which should then be shared equally between the two.
This made Vidhu very angry, who said that rather than asking for increase in royalty, it is Sonu, who should pay him for giving him good numbers in his films, which is keeping his singing career as a playback singer alive. Vidhu alleged that Sonu is not getting any work in the industry, apart from the songs he had given him in his films.
Though, Vidhu is said to have got very upset with Sonu over the royalty issue, the singer tried to downplay the entire incident saying that the difference between the two got sorted out when Vidhu spoke to him later.
But, on the other hand, it seems Sonu is in no mood end the clash on the royalty issue as he is quick to add that good musicians have a right to ask more and by increasing their royalty, the producers are not doing them a favor.
For the time being though, it seems the musical team of Vidhu and Sonu has broken as both have decided not to work with each-other.
