Farhan Akhtar with Deepika Padukone in Karthik Calling Karthik
It was a dinner meeting that prompted debutant director Vijay Lalwani of Karthk Calling Karthik to make a film. He was having dinner with some friends when an idea struck his mind that how nice it would have been if a single phone call can solve all the problems of life. This led to the script of Karthik Calling Karthik. Later on ad person Vijay Lalwani went to meet Frahan Akhtar to discuss some angles of filmmaking. But Farhan Akhtar was so excited with his ideas hat he agreed to do the lead role for this movie and also agreed to co-produce the movie. What else a debutant director can ask for. He was going to direct the one of the best directors in bollywood!
Why did he make the leading lady Deepika Padukone cut her hair? He says, “Because she wouldn’t have looked bindaas with waist-length hair. It took me a long time to convince her to cut her hair. In the end, I’m sure she was glad she did it.”
About the first day of his shoot, the director Vijay Lalwani says,”Generally, it is obvious that you do the easiest scene on your first day. That means no scenes with pets or children. Unfortunately for me, the first scene was with children. Luckily, I managed to handle it well and didn’t embarrass myself.”
How was his experience of working with Farhan Akhtar and Deepika Padukone? The director says, “Both of them are thorough professionals and have a done a wonderful job. I couldn’t have asked for more.”
