Bobby Deol, Sunny Deol and Abhay Deol
Like it is the case with Indians otherwise also, the Bollywood families have been quite closely knit. In what was once considered the first family of Hindi film industry, first Prithvi Raj Kapoor and then Raj Kapoor had complete control over their families. Apart from the few films (7 in all) that Shashi Kapoor’s daughter Sanjana did in early 1980’s, Raj Kapoor during his lifetime never allowed any of the female members of his family to enter film industry, a rule everyone readily obeyed. There are many other families in the industry, which are very close to each other and consider the word of elders as final.
One such family of Bollywood is The Deols. It is often said that when it comes to Deols, first the word of Papa Dharamendra and then big brother Sunny is considered to be final. Not only the three men, industry has always given that extra respect even to Esha Deol.
But that may be history now. Reports suggest that unlike Dharamendra’s own sons, his nephew Abhay Deol does not follow the family blindly and takes his own decisions. This was apparent when a producer, who is said to be a close friend of Sunny Deol met him with a script with three lead male characters, which he wanted Sunny, Bobby and Abhay to play. Sources say that Sunny Deol is said to have liked the script and reassured the producer that he will discuss the project will both Bobby and Abhay, so that the film can go on the floor.
But reports further suggest that since Abhay was not happy with the role being offered to him, he simply refused both his elder brother and the concerned producer. Abhay did not stop there but politely told Sunny that he would appreciate if he was allowed to take his own decisions.
Reports indicate that Abhay was not convinced to do an all-out action film as he feared that being an action hero, it would be Sunny Deol, who would walk away with all the applauds. So, where as Bobby chose to keep quite, it was Abhay who spoke and shattered one of Sunny’s dream projects.
