Abhishek Bachchan might be playing the character of a Maoist leader in Ravana.

Ever since director Mani Ratnam announced his ambitious project Ravana, there have been speculations that the film is based on the famous Hindu epic Ramayna with Abhishek Bachchan playing the lead negative character of Ravana.

But if the latest reports about the film are to be believed, though the story and the characters of this film may be indirectly influenced by the famous Hindu epic, contrary to the earlier reports, this film is not a direct copy of Ramayna.

Though the director of the film Mani Ratnam has tried his keep every aspect of the film a close guarded secret, the first information that has got leaked about the film suggests that apart from being based on Ravana, Abhishek’s character may also be based on the Moist leader Kobad Ghandy.

Those close to director Ratnam say that similar to many of his films in the past like Nayakan and Guru, which have been influenced by real life characters and other films like Bombay and Yuva that were influenced by serious real life issues, the story of Ravana may also have such an influence and that influence may be the Moist leader Kobad Ghandy and the Maoist movement..

Another strong resemblance of Abhishek’s character to the Maoist leader is that just like Kobad Ghandy, Abhishek’s character in Ravana also heads a organization banned by the government. Sources close to the director also point out that since the director wanted Abhiskek’s character in the film to look as real as possible, the director had undertaken an extensive research to know more about the Maoist leader.

If the reports that Abhishek is playing the character of a Maoist leader are actually true, then Ravana becomes a movie to look forward to. After the recent attacks on Indian security forces allegedly by the Maoist groups, if the story of Ravana is based on the Maoist movement and tries to highlight the true problems of those people, the movie may draw huge crowds. But, if Ratnam is trying to sympathize with the Maoist through this film like he did with the terrorists in Kashmir in his film Roza, Ravana may not do well at the Box Office.
