Bipasha Basu
At times, when a star like Shahrukh Khan is being severely criticized for dancing in a private wedding for a sum of 3 cr, it is good to see how some other Bollywood stars are taking a firm stand on certain issues.
One such Bollywood celebrity, who recently took a firm stand on an issue, is Bipasha Basu.
Bipasha Basu is one of the very few stars in Bollywood, who have never had any problem with her looks and appearance. Though, she is slightly dark skinned, she has never turned to fairness creams to change or get rid of her skin color. In fact, her close friends point out that rather being ashamed of it all, Bipasha has always had a sense of pride about her appearance and dark skin, which she feels is quite attractive. You may recall that when Bipasha was asked to appear on screen without any make-up in Apharan, she agreed to do the role without even giving it a thought about how her fans will take to her de-glamorized look.
But, yet there are a few things that are a strict no, no, for Bipasha. As she herself puts it, “You’ll never find me endorsing especially for fairness cream, because I don’t like the whole penchant for fair skin. I was offered a product endorsement for a fairness cream ages ago, but I declined. In India, dark skinned girls are still subjected to taunts and pity. In the matrimonial columns, people still advertise for a fair bride. I’m dark skinned and very proud of that.”
So, when she was approached for endorsing a fairness cream, Bipasha simply refused despite the fact that the offer was unique in the sense that it came directly from the person whom she can never refuse- John Abraham. John, who is about to endorse and shoot an advertisement for a fairness cream, wanted Bipasha to be a part of the advertising campaign but, Bipasha did not heed to his request.
Now, that’s what you call taking a stand. Well done Bipasha.
