Despite the fact that it was originally a cricket tournament, with each passing day, the IPL is turning around to also become a Bollywood event in some way or the other.

It all started last year itself with Shahrukh Khan and Preity Zinta, who decided to be a part of the IPL, when they bought the Kolkatta Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab teams respectively. Shilpa Shetty followed in 2009 season by buying a share in Rajastan Royals.

The talk of IPL’s connection with Bollywood has increased even more this year as the tournament has progressed over the last few days. To begin with, all three including Shahrukh Khan, Preity Zinta and Shilpa Shetty showed up at the opening ceremony of the tournament. . Apart from these three, who own the IPL teams, a few other stars like Akshay Kumar and Raveena Tandon have also visited South Africa to see a couple of matches. Now, there are also rumors about Arjun Rampal getting associated with the Kolkatta Knight Riders as well.

But, it seems that the IPL is not done with Bollywood as yet and still wants more.

And even Bollywood isn’t going to disappoint IPL. The reports suggest that Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, Rani Mukherjee and Bipasha Basu have been roped in to perform at the closing ceremony of the IPL to be held on May 24.

But the two people among these, who are extremely excited about this performance as they might well be benefited from it are Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor. The two will actually be using this opportunity to launch the promotion of their upcoming film Kambakht Ishq.

Eventually how useful is IPL as a platform to launch the promotion of a Bollywood film will only be known once Kambakht Ishq is released, but Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor’s performance surely opens a new avenue for producers to start the promotion of their films.

It seems that whereas next year, when IPL is held in India, we may not see so many Bollywood stars during the matches but launching of films promotion may continue at events like IPL next year as well..
