Shahrukh Khan Kajol
Whoever said that the world and Bollywood are going through an economic crises will be compelled to take his words back when he gets to know that a company called Fox Star Studios has bought the rights of Karan Johar’s directorial venture My Name Is Khan, which stars Shahrukh Khan and Kajol in the lead role, for a sum of 100 crore. This is the biggest price ever paid to a Bollywood movie after Aamir Khan’s Ghajini and Shahrukh Khan’s Om Shanti Om grossed 90 Crores and 75 Crores each respectively.
Though given that the film is being made by Karan Johar and stars Shahrukh Khan and Kajol, the trio who gave hits like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, it may not be a bad idea to just stop for a minute and contemplate whether My Name Is Khan deserve 100 crores in the first place?
There are three very interesting points that you may like to look at before decided for yourself whether the film deserved 100 crores or not. First, though, Shahrukh last major release Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, was a hit at the Box office, the way it was over shadowed by Aamir Khan’s Ghajini, left everyone wondering as to who is the real Badshah of Bollywood. Similarly, despite the fact that Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai were blockbusters, Karan Johar’s last film as a director Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna did not go well with the audiences. So, considering that in Bollywood, you are only considered as good as your last film, Karan Johar may be consider himself lucky to have got 100 crore for My Name Is Khan
Apart from these, one other drawback may be that the film is based against the backdrop of 9/11 incident in New York. Bollywood lovers, who have just seen New York, an extremely intelligent movie on the same incident, will be compelled to compare the two movies and if My Name Is Khan is not up to that level, people may even reject it out rightly.
How well the movie has actually been made and whether Fox Star Studios is able to recover their money will only be known once My Name Is Khan releases, but right now Karan Johar must be rejoicing that his movie, which he has made for 55 crore, has been sold for a worth of 100 crores.
