Is there something wrong with these new lead actresses who make their debut with big stars? Launched with a lot of fanfare, these heroines make news in their first movie and then just disappear from the scene.
To start with, do you remember the Lagaan girl Gracy Singh? Gracy, who was noticed by Aamir Khan, while watching a serial on Zee TV, had the kind of start to her film carrier, which any actress would dream of. Even after films like Armaan and Gangajal, where she was paired with well-known stars like Anil Kapoor and Ajay Devgan respectively, she failed to give her career any kind of a shape. True, Lagaan wasn’t her first movie, but isn’t it surprising that seven years down the line, after such a massive hit, as of now she is not having a single release scheduled for 2009.
Then, you have Gayatri Joshi. What, did you ask who Gayatri Joshi? She was a one film wonder from the modeling industry, who was casted opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Swades, and yet couldn’t make use of the powerful break and the opportunity she got through this particular film.
But, you may ask that since these two ladies have almost become a part of history, why are we discussing them now? Well, if the sources are to be believed, Anushka Sharma, the leading lady of Rab Ne Banna Di Jodi is headed towards their direction only. Whereas, given the kind of opening the film is said to have got, Anushka should be right in the centre of affairs, enjoying the success and the fame that has come to her. But she is nowhere to be seen.
Since the storyline of Rab Ne Banna Di Jodi was to be kept under a wrap all this times, it was quite understandable that the Yash Raj Banner did all it could to keep Anushka behind closed doors only to let her out at the last moment as the surprise element of the movie. But, now given that the movie has been released, one fails to understand why Anushka has been keeping such a low profile.
Anyway, as a viewer, you can only wish that getting such a big break that too opposite the king Khan helps her career go a long way and she doesn’t end up being another Gracy or Gayatri.
