Munnabhai Chale Amrika has been delayed due to its resemblance with My Name Is Khan.
It seems that the ambitious project of Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Rajkumar Hirani and Sanjay Dutt, Munnabhai Chale Amrika has been delayed even further because the film’s storyline has a resemblance with My Name Is Khan.
This is the second interruption for the much awaited film after it was delayed ealier once when the makers could not decided who should be the lead actor of the third film of the Munnabhai series. Initial reports suggested that after the success of two Munnabhai films with Sanjay Dutt in the lead role, the makers had contemplated upon casting Aamir Khan for the lead role for the third film.
Whereas those speculations were set to rest by Sanjay Dutt, who went on to confirm that he indeed would play the role of the central character in the third film, this did not ensure a smooth start of the film. The makers have even a bigger problem in hand.
Both Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Rajkumar Hirani feel that many concepts that they had planned for Sanjay in Munnabhai Chale Amrika have aready been shown in Shahrukh Khan starrer My Name Is Khan.
In fact, after watching My Name Is Khan, Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Rajkumar Hirani found the script of the two films so similar that they had to ask their writers to pen down the film all over again.
Even Sanjay Dutt confirmed these reports and said, “Yes, there were similarities between the scripts of ‘Munnbhai Chale Amrika’ and ‘My Name Is Khan’. Since Raj Kumar Hirani can’t afford to let the third Munnabhai film suffer in any way, changes are being made in the Munnabhai film. It’s a huge responsibility to helm the Munnbhai series and Raju knows this fairly well.”
Sanjay Dutt says that since they do not want to compromise on story, the makers have decieded to delay the film. For this very reason, Munnabhai Chale Amrika, which was to go on floor in the end of the year will now go on the floor in April 2011, when the changes in the script of film are made and the film has no resemblance with My Name Is Khan.
