After fabulous performance as Chatur Ramalingam in 3 Idiots, Omi Vaidya is a big name in Bollywood.
One fine evening, a man walked out after watching one of the first shows of Munnabhai MBBS and no one noticed him. Today, if the same Boman Irani walks out on a street, people may jump on each-other just to get a glimpse of the Bollywood actor.
It is sometimes surprising to see just what a good performance does for an actor. Take another example of just recent times and you will come across Amole Gupte, who has become a household name after his powerful performance in just his second film Kaminey.
Whether it was Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn or Shahrukh Khan, there are endless examples of lead male stars making it big just after their very first release. But what was significant about both Boman Irani and Amole Gupte is that they were noticed despite other stars in their film, who had a more vital role in the particular movies.
Now, add one name to this list – the name of Omi Vaidya, who has suddenly risen to fame and is getting rave reviews for his performance as Chatur Ramalingam in 3 Idiots.
Says Omi, the 27 years old actor, who apart from 3 Idiots has been part of some Hollywood projects, “At the premiere of 3 Idiots, no one recognized me. I was slightly depressed but when it got over, it was difficult for me to even get out of the theatre. I have been charmed by the love and appreciation I have received from the audience.”
Adds Omi, “It feels good when people stop me in the middle of the road now and shake hand with me.”
Omi has come out as the surprise package of the film and some of his funny one liners in the film are really making people laugh out of their seats during the shows of 3 Idiots.
With his fabulous and powerful performance as Chatur Ramalingam in 3 Idiots, Omi Vaidya has proved that a good actor can make it big and prove himself even in a small role and in the company of big stars like Aamir Khan.
