Raavan Being Praised in USA

by admin on June 22, 2010

Raavan is being highly praised by the media in USA.

Mani Ratnam’s new offering Ravana is getting rave reviews and is being praised by the media in the United States of America. Film critic from one of the most famous and widely read newspaper of the country The New York Times has gone on to select the film as the critic’s pick for the week – a tag not many films from Bollywood have got in the country where mostly Hollywood movies are watched.

Raavan has Bollywood glamour at its best, with the lovely if occasionally dramatically challenged Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan‘s wife, playing the Sita.  But, the real star, though, is Ratnam, a talented visual storyteller who directed this action film in a crisp manner and fills the screen with striking images, wrote the newspaper.

New York Times specially praised the direction, the music, the camera work and the action sequences at the climax of the film.

With even other newspapers like The Los Angeles Times, famous entertainment tabloid Variety and Hollywood Reporter praising the film, it is not only the New York Times but the US media in general, which has liked the film.

Hollywood reporter termed the film as Pan-Indian saga which has intense emotion and gorgeous images. The tabloid praised Mani Ratnam for a story, which showcases the ancient Hindu epic Ramayna in an interesting and entertaining way.

Hollywood reporter added that the hard work put in by production designer, the editor and the cameraman has helped to come up with a film that has the capacity and the capability to impress audiences not only in India but across the globe.

Expressing similar views another tabloid from USA, Variety wrote, ‘Consistently one of India’s most versatile and exciting directors, Ratnam has given a big film, which contains all the ingredients needed for commercial success.’

The Los Angeles Times also praised Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Mani Ratnam for their work in this film. The newspaper added that the camera work and the action scenes in the film are a treat to watch.

This is the second Bollywood film in last couple of weeks after Kites, which has managed to impress the media in USA and is being highly praised by them. Hopefully this praise draws movie goes to not only watch the film but popularize Bollywood in the western part of the globe.
