Ranbir Kapoor
It seems the greatest fan of late Raj Kapoor is none other than his grandson Ranbir Kapoor. In fact Ranbir Kapoor is well acquainted with many aspects of Raj Kapoor’s films. Sanjay Leela Bhansali who gave Ranbir his first break in Saawariya is also a die-hard fan of Raj Kapoor. He moulded Ranbir’s character in Saawariya as endearing vagabond-with-heart-of-gold on Raj Kapoor. The character was also named as Raj. Sanjay Leela Bhansali was also inspired by the unusual relationship between Raj Kapoor and Lalita Pawar shown in Anari. He too depicted a somewhat similar relationship between between Ranbir and Zohra Sehgal.
Now it is the turn of Raj Kumar Santoshi who is another great fan of Raj Kapoor. He is shooting for his next film Ajab Prem Ki Ghajab Kahani with Ranbir Kapoor. Raj Kumar Santoshi’s central character has been inspired by Raj Kappor’s Awara and Shree 420 main lead.
Santoshi declared to the world, “I could see Ranbir in the same mould as Raj saab. Yes, Ranbir’s character in Ajab Prem Ki Ghajab Kahani is modelled on Raj Kapoor.”
Rishi Kapoor also invited Raj Kumar Hirani to make a film in the Raj Kapoor mould for the RK banner. Ranbir ultimate ambition is to turn into a director. Whenever that happens, Ranbir wants to remake at least one of Raj Kapoor’s classics in his own way.
