Shahrukh Khan with Kajol
There are more problem Shahrukh Khan, who is now facing opposition from all ends as after Hindus, even Islamic fundamentalists are opposing My Name Is Khan.
It seems problems for Shahrukh Khan starrer My Name Is Khan don’t seem to be ending. After Hindu fundamentalists organizations like Shiv Sena opposed the film over Shahrukh’s support to cricketers from Pakistan, now it’s the turn of Islamic fundamentalists to criticize the film.
The Shahi Imam of Tipu Sultan Mosque in Kolkata Syed Noor-ur-Rehman Barkati has issued a fatwa asking everyone including both Hindus and Muslims to boycott My Name Is Khan. Though the Shahi Imam has no objection to the contents of the film based on the story of a Muslim man, he too seems to be having problems with none other than the lead male star of the film, Shahrukh Khan.
Syed Noor-ur-Rehman Barkati said that he wants everyone to oppose Shahrukh for endorsing the products made by a businessman Ashok Todi, who was allegedly involved in the murder of his so-in-law Rizwanur Rahman.
Meanwhile there was more trouble for Shahrukh Khan as activists of Shiv Sena, allegedly stoned the office of Red Chillies Entertainment, the entertainment company in Mumbai owned by Shahrukh Khan, which has co-produced My Name Is Khan along with Karan Johar.
But, while there was confusion in the minds of all Bollywood lovers after fundamentalists from both Hindu and Islamic organizations opposed My Name Is Khan, one person, who was not affected by these threats and went ahead and saw the film was Shahrukh’s wife Gauri Khan. After watching the film, which she loved, she encouraged others to see the film by saying, ‘My Name Is Khan’ is an excellent film and everybody should go and watch it.”
Gauri also expressed her happiness over the fact that despite the call by Shiv Sena to oppose the film, the shows of My Name Is Khan have gone to packed houses.
It seems that with the response the film has got on its opening day, people have rejected the communal politics of both Hindu and Muslim fundamentalist, who are opposing My Name Is Khan. And despite opposition from all ends, Shahrukh has won a moral victory with all the shows of the film going to packed houses on the first day. He must be hoping it goes on the same way in days to come.
