Aamir Khan churns out one blockbuster after another but awards still eludes him. His screen rivals often end up giving flowery speeches with awards in their hands. But Aamir Khan has started the New Year with a bang. He is being conferred one of the greatest civilian honor by Government of India. He is chosen for Padma Bhushan award. His colleague from the same profession Saif Ali Khan is also being awarded Padma Shree. Other recipients of Padma Shree are veteran and charming diva Rekha and celebrated sound engineer Resul Pokutty. Padma Bhushan is also given to music maestros A. R. Rahman and Ilaiyaraja.
Speaking about the Padma Bhushan, Aamir says, "I am so happy to receive this unique honour. The first thing that comes to my mind is my mother’s smiling face. Indeed this has been a good day for me. First my film Peepli Live gets a superb response here at the Sundance Film Festival, and then I receive this wonderful news of receiving the Padma Bhushan. I only wish I was back home right now. I would like to thank God for these happy moments, and all my fans and well wishers for their love, support and good wishes." None better than Aamir Khan deserves this award.
Also, yesteryear actress Zohra Sehgal will be honoured with the Padma Vibhushan.
