Whereas Aamir Khan maintained that he is yet to be approached by anyone for his wax statue to be installed at Madame Tussauds Museum, one Bollywood star who confirmed that he has been approached for the honors is Akshay Kumar.
Though, his couple of films may not have done well in 2009, with the kind of success he had in last two years, Akshay was always a strong contender for a place in the museum. Alongside, with the kind of fan following Akshay has among the Bollywood fans in Britain, it is not surprising that Madame Tussauds decided to have Akshay’s statue installed at the museum.
But, the management at the museum was in for a big disappointment when on having discussions with him in this regard, they learned that Akshay wasn’t too keen to be a part of Madame Tussauds and refused to be waxed.
By rejecting this offer Akshay has made it clear that contrary to some other Indian celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan and Sachin Tendulkar, he does not feel that being a part of Madame Tussauds is such a great honor. On the other hand, for Akshay, the Padam Shree that he recently received from the President of India is a far bigger achievement than the wax statue being installed at the museum. Reports suggest that where as Akshay gave a cold shoulder to the idea of his wax statue, he was extremely excited about the Padam Shree. Akshay reportedly said, “I am very happy to be honored with Padam Shree. I do not give any important to Madame Tussaude.”
His other controversies apart, this is a great gesture by Akshay. With some other people giving more importance to their personnel gains, it is good to see that at least there is one celebrity in India, who values honor from the state.
