Amitabh Bachchan is once again midst of controversy, this time for his film Paa.
Amitabh Bachchan might be the biggest superstar of Bollywood but it seems his relations with legal agencies are never at their best. After being at loggerheads with various government departments like the income-tax department, Mr. Bachchan is being again dragged to court, this time for his film Paa.
In a case filed against Mr. Amitabh Bachchan in the Patna High Court under the provisions of The Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995, a lawyer, Shruti Singh has alleged that the actor and and his company ABCL made fun of persons with disabilities with his film Paa.
While filing a case against Mr. Bachchan, Shruti said, “I filed a case in the court demanding an inquiry into whether ‘Paa’ violated the act or not. My stand is simple. If it violated the disability act, the authorities should act against the producer and actors of the film for making a joke of disabled people."
Shruti alleged that where as the persons with disabilities act propagates about building a society, which is free of any kind of discrimination against persons with disability, films like Paa still seem to indicate otherwise.
Along with Mr. Bachchan and his company ABCL, Shruti has also filed a lawsuit against Paa’s director R. Balkrishnan, whom she alleges being the director is responsible for violating the Persons with disabilities act.
Though the film starring Amitabh Bachchan as a 13-year-old boy suffering from progeria, which accelerates the ageing process, has already hit theatres all across the country, the Patna High court has accepted the case under the provisions of persons with disabilities act and will hear lawyer Shruti Singh’s arguments within a next few weeks time.
- But, probably the good news for the fans of Mr. Bachchan is that despite him being in the midst of controversy, until and the court rules against the film in any way, they will continue to enjoy his fabulous performance in Paa.
