A.R. Rahman
The successful run that the music composer A R Rahman has had after the music of Slumdog Millionaire hit the international scene, is like a sweet dream that doesn’t seem to end. The latest feather in the cap of the Oscar winning composer came when he made it to the list of top 100 most influential persons in the world, which is said to have been compiled by the Time Magazine. Rehman, who holds 59th position in the list is said to have been included for winning the Golden Globes and the Bafta awards apart from the Oscars for his work in Slumdog Millionaire.
The list is going to be published in the next edition, which will be the 2009 annual edition of the prestigious time magazine. What needs to be noted though, is that the list is said to be compiled on the basis of ‘Personal Understanding’ of the editor of Time and are not chosen on the basis of popular choice.
While adding Rehman’s name on the list, the editor of time magazine wrote, “In India, a country of a billion inhabitants, where film and pop music are one, A.R. Rahman, 43, dominates the music industry so totally that he has supplied the sound track for a whole generation.”
Though, it may not be of a major significance to his fans, but there is one difference between this nomination and all other prestigious awards that the composer has received so far for Slumdog Millionaire. Whereas all the other major awards were mainly for the song Jai Ho, Rehman has been made a part of this list for the song “O Saya”.
