And the award goes to…
Awards. Who doesn’t love to get them? We all do. For Bollywood, this is also the award season where some channel or the other is showing an award function every alternative week. But, as there are exception to every rule, there are some awards such as those being mentioned below, which no one would want even to be nominated for leave alone getting it.
One of the leading news magazine in association with another leading television network have joined together to give away not the best but the worst in Bollywood for the year 2008. Though they are for the worst in 2008, the winners can still rejoice, since unlike some other awards, which are said to be biased and even sold, these are the most transparent awards you will ever see in your life. Here are the nominations and the winners.
The nominations for the worst film are Drona, Love Story 2050, Mission Istambul, Tashan and Yuvraj. And the winner is Drona. Drona got 27.6% votes for this award. Love Story 2050 25.8%, Tashan 23.8%, Yuvraaj 12.4% and Mission Istambul 10.4%.
Next award is for worst actor for which nominations include Anil Kapoor for Tashan, Himesh Reshammiya for Karzzz, Salman Khan for God Tussi Great Ho and Zayed Khan for both Misson Istambul and Yuvraaj. The winner in this category is Himesh Reshammiya with a whopping 58.2% votes as Anil and Sallu got 12.9% and 11.6% respectively. People found Zayed a little more decent in Yuvraaj as 9.6% voted for his performance in Mission Istambul compared to 7.6% in Yuvraaj.
For the worst Actress category, both Amrita Arora and Malika Sherawat have got two nominations each. Where as Amrita has got it for Hello and Golmaal Returns Malika is in the list for Ugli Aur Pagli and Maan Gaye Mughal-E-Azam. Urmila Matondkar also chips in for her role in Karzz. And again, like in the male category, the undisputed winner here is Malika Sherawat as both her roles stood apart with Ugli Aur Pagli winning with 28.6% votes and Maan Gaye Mughal-E-Azam getting 22.5%. Amrita Arora in Hello stood third with 17.5% votes whereas her performance in otherwise successful film Golmaal Returns proved as a bit of a face saver for her with only 14.2% votes. Urmila in Karzz stands at the fourth place with 17.2% votes.
The worst film has Bombay To Bangkok, Hello, Kidnap, Mission Istambul, and Tashan as the nominees. The winner in this category is Tashan with 41.3% votes, followed by Bombay To Bankok with 17.2%, Mission Instambul 15.2%, Hello 14.7% and Kidnap 11.6% votes.
The last award is for the fashion disaster or what you can also term as the worst on-screen look of the year. And the nominations are – Abhishek Bachchan’s dress in Drona, Akshay Kumar’s get-up in Singh is King, Mimoh’s look in Jimmy, Priyanka Chopra’s ugly red wig in Love Story 2050, and Vidya Balan desperately trying to look younger than Shahid Kapoor in Kismat Konnection. And the winner with 31.9 % votes is Abhishek. Priyanka Chopra takes the second position with 25.8% votes, Vidya Balan comes third with 17.2 % votes and Mimoh and Aki with 14.7% and 10.4% votes get the fourth and the fifth place respectively.
Irrespective of what they suggest, these awards need to be taken in good spirits because both good and the bad are two parts of the same coin. Where there is good, there is bad and where there is beautiful, there is ugly also.
