Bollywood movies to cost more

by admin on May 28, 2010

Big releasing this summer will cost more.

Have you ever tried to get an original DVD of a film that has got a better response at the box office than others? More than often, whereas you have to pay Rs. 200 for a DVD of an average film, the DVD of a movie that has got good response at the box office cost you around Rs 400.

Now, something similar is going to happen with new releases at the box office as you will have to shell out some extra money to watch the films, you have been eagerly waiting for.

Sources in the industry say that starting with Kites, the price of tickets of those movies, which are expected to draw audiences to the theatres are going to cost Rs 10 to 20 more than the usual price.

Though, this policy has been adopted on earlier occasions as well in the case of 3 Idiots and Housefull, there is a major difference between charging extra for those movies and what is going to happen in the future. Whereas the price of the tickets of 3 Idiots and Housefull were increased after these films were loved by the audiences and declared a hit, the rates of some of the upcoming movies will be high from the very day the film hits the theatre.

Sources in the industry say that whereas hiking ticket prices is a usual practice in the months of May to September, it has become even more necessary this time around after the industry and cinema hall owners suffered heavy losses due to the problems between producers and multiplex owners over the revenuer sharing issue. The industry has also suffered major losses recently with not many fans coming to the cinema halls because they found the IPL cricket tournament more interesting than the Bollywood movies released in that period. Cinema halls owners hope that by increasing the ticket prices in season when many big movies are about to hit the theatres, they will be able to recover at least some losses they incurred during this period.

Sources in the industry further add that with most schools, colleges and universities getting though with their exams by April end or early May, most youngsters visit cinema halls more than often in the period of April to August and cinema halls owners hope to cash the situation and attain maximum profits in this span of time.

So, with big Bollywood releases costing more this summer, if you are planning to watch movies like Kites, Rajneeti, Raavan, I Hate Luv Stories, Peepli Live, Action Reply, Crook, Lamhaa and Kajrare, you will need to put your hand a little deeper into your pocket.
