Bollywood and Hollywood are coming together to curb piracy.
In a joint initiative taken by the Motion Picture Association of America and Bollywood, the two film industries have decided to come together to curb piracy in films, which has become a major source of problem for filmmakers across the world.
The first move in this direction was taken by MPAA chairman Dan Glickman and Bollywood bigwigs Yash Chopra, Mukesh Bhatt, Sanjeev Lamba, Harish Dayani, Siddharth Roy Kapur, Ram Mirchandani and Sandeep Bhargava at the recently concluded annual FICCI Frames industry conference in Mumbai.
Speaking at the conference MPAA chairman Dan Glickman said, “It’s been almost two years since we started working with our counterparts in Bollywood producing and distributing both films and Television programs together. We have also shared technology and come up with films like Slumdog Millionaire and My Name Is Khan, which have been a global success.”
He said it was time that the two film industries came together and jointly took steps to curb piracy, which is harming both of them.
MPAA chairman Dan Glickman’s were echoed by Bollywood producer Mahesh Bhatt, who said that along with the video piracy, in countries like India, laws also need to be created to curb online piracy.
If Bollywood and Hollywood can come together and can take joint steps in this direction to curb piracy, it can be a great help to the Hindi film industry, which is losing around $1 billion annually just because of piracy. This may also help some of the Bollywood films, which are released in India. Hopefully with help from Hollywood, at least some of this piracy can be controlled.
