Deepika Padukone
In her short career span Deepika Padukone has played variety of roles in her movies. She had played a superstar and simple girl both in her very first film in Om Shanti Om, then quite glamorous role in Chandni Chowk To China and a modern gal in Love Aaj Kal. But her role in Karthik Calling Karthik is quite real. It requires effort on Deepika’s part to shed non filmy attitude in Karthik Calling Karthik.
Deepika herself confirms this, "Yes, performances in Karthik Calling Karthik were meant to be very real and relatable. That was the requirement of the film and the characters. This is why you see that even Farhan’s performance is very real in the film. I too had to adapt to a different acting style which was quite a task actually because I was also working on Housefull around the same time. Now the genre of Housefull is such where there had to be a lot more enthusiasm in my performance. On the other hand, Karthik Calling Karthik is a little understated."
Nowadays Deepika is busy in other movies too such as Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Se with Abhishek Bachchan, Break Ke Baad with Imran Khan and YRF’s untitled film with Neil Nitin Mukesh. She seems to be one of the busiest stars around.
Deepika also agrees that these days heroines are offered substantial roles in the movies. She says, Deepika says, "I can speak for myself for sure that I won’t be seen as a part of a film just for a song and dance routine. I guess most would agree that today when a girl is brought into a film, she is there for adding much more to the plot and narrative than just the glamour quotient."
