The problem with our Blooywood movie directors is they get inspired by Hollywood movies but they don’t know how to mould it according to Indian viewers taste. So what comes out is a Khichadi of sorts. As usual this movie is ‘inspired’ by Woody Allen’s classic, Husbands and Wives. We know the original impressed millions with its humorous theme.
But as far as Dil Kabaddi is concerned, the director Anil Senior has made an honest effort to mold it according to Indian audiences but missed out on many counts.
The story of Dil Kabaddi deals with married couples facing boredom in their lives and looking for outside fun to spice up their lives. Samit (Irrfan Khan) is troubled by his wife Mita’s (Soha Ali Khan) aloofness in physical aspects and argumentative behavior. He found solace in the arms of a sexually adventurous aerobics instructor, Kaya (Payal Rohatgi).
Another couple in the movie Dil Kabaddi are Rishi (Rahul Bose) and his wife Simi (Konkona Sensharma). They too are outgrowing each other. Rishi found Simi too overbearing and at a loss to deal with her. He was falling for his student Saba Azad. Simi too find a shoulder to cry on, her editor, Veer (Rahul Khanna). Though she was supposed to be acting as matchmaker for him. So all the hell break loose when partners came to realize what their spouses are upto.

The background music of Dil Kabaddi fails to touch the soul or impress. The movies biggest drawback is lack of a strong storyline. What impresses is actors’ performances. It can be termed as dream cast. All the actors held their own and delivers what is expected of them. Rahul Khanna was able to make a mark among these heavyweight actors. In the end one can conclude that the director of Dil Kabaddi could have delivered a much better package with such an universal and interesting subject.
