Director Vipul Shah, whose next movie London Dreams is going to be released in a couple of weeks, alleges that he has received threat calls from Hindu fundamentalist groups.
Have you seen the promos of Vipul Shah’s next directorial venture London Dreams, starring Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn and Asin in the lead role? In one of the promos being aired on various Television channels, you get to hear Hanuman Chalisa, a Hindi relic in form of a song.
If reports and rumors going round in the Hindi Film Industry are to be believed, certain Hindu fundamentalist organizations are said to be highly upset with the director for using the Hindu relic as a song in his film. They say that by using Hanuman Chalisa as a song in his film, Vipul has hurt the sentiments of the Hindu community.
Though, protest against various Bollywood films by people and organizations belonging to various communities is nothing new, with the latest being the protest by Sikh community against Love Aaj Kal, what is surprising is that Vipul Shah is trying to downplay the matter. When the rumors of the alleges threat call reached the police, Vipul is said to have got a call from Joint Commissioner of Mumbai Police asking Vipul to lodge a formal complaint. But Vipul refused saying that unless and until he is able to establish the identification of the caller, who threatened him, he will not lodge any complaint. Vipul added that if he lodges a complaint without identifying the caller, it would seem like, he is accusing the entire community and not a particular person for this incident.
May be, by not complaining to the police that he has received threat calls, Vipul Shah has made a very wise and claver move. By downplaying the matter, Vipul is actually denying the Hindu fundamentalist like Shiv Sena an opportunity to stall the release and screening of the film. After all the hard work that he has put in to make London Dreams, his top priority right now would be to see that the film hits the theatres without any problem and by not getting into any kind of controversy, he is doing precisely that.
