Javed Akhtar has been nominated to Rajya Sabha.
Eminent writer, poet and lyrist from Bollywood, Javed Akhtar has been nominated to the Rajya Sabha.Reacting to the news of his nomination to the upper house of Parliament, Javed said that he feels honored to be nominated and hoped that he lives up to people’s expectations.
Javed said that being a part of the house is a great responsibility and he will do whatever possible in his capacity to discharge his duties in the best possible manner and contribute to the house so that he can live up to the expectation that people have from him.
The 65 years old lyrist added that he will try to reflect the hopes, feelings and aspirations of the people and take-up the problems of common man in the house.
With Javed’s nomination to the house, he and Shabana Azami have become the first husband-wife duo to be nominated by the President to the upper house of the parliament.
Meanwhile, Javed’s wife Shabana, who has always maintained that her husband could be a great politician, is said to be extremely happy about this nomination. When asked to comment, Shabana said, “I am delighted with Javed’s nomination to the house. His is a secular liberal articulate and most important of all sane voice that we need in today’s time.” She said that according to her, Javed is one of the most intelligent and well read person in the country and therefore is ideal to be nominated to the Rajya Sabha.
Shabana said that since Javed has been nominated to Rajya Sabha now, she hopes that during his tenure in parliament, he would take up variety of issues including issues relating to film industry, women and the city of Mumbai.
