Anurag Basu hopes Kites will make Bollywood global.
Anurag Basu hopes that his latest directorial venture Kites, which is going to hit theatres not only in India and across the world, will be able to make Bollywood global. He hoped that the film will be able to impress those audiences abroad, who are not used to watching Bollywood films.
The director said, "I won’t say Kites will change everything, but it’s a step to Indian films Global. It will also lure non-Hindi speaking people to come, see and like the film.”
He said that despite having the required qualifications and wanting to do so, directors of his generation from India are not able to make a mark in international film world. His aim of making this film was to prove that Indian directors are not less capable of making a film that can attract viewers across the globe.
The director said that whereas the lead female actress of the film Barbara Mori already has an international appeal, the male lead star of the film Hrithik Roshan also has a international following and his film will prove that Hrithik has fans not only in India but all-around the world.
Certainly, right now India has quite a number of directors, who with their films have shown that they have the capability of making a good film that is liked by audiences across the world. Yet, directors of Indian origin like Shekhar Kapoor, who have made a mark internationally with their films can be counted on fingers. If the English version of Kites, which will be releasing internationally after one week of the film’s release in India does well, then Anurag Basu’s dream of making Bollywood global and seeing many more film makers from India get into international film making will actually come true.
