The beautiful heroine of yesteryears Nalini Jaywant was found dead by one of her relatives and it is being speculated that she had been dead for 3 days. A recent retweet by Shekhar Kapur read:

Yesteryear actor Nalini Jaywant died quietly in her sleep. The BMC came and collected her body wrapped in a bedsheet…That’s life…

Some of Nalini’s popular films were Bahen, Munimji, Sangram, Railway Platform and Nastik among others. During her heydays many popular songs were filmed on her including “Jeevan ke safar mein raahi” from Munimji, “Nazar laagi raja tore bangle par” from Kala Pani, “Thandi hawaein” from Naujawan and “Gore gore o banke chhore” from Samadhi. She worked with one of the biggest stars of that time including Dilip Kumar, Dev Anand and Ashok Kumar.

Nalani Jaywant was first cousin to actress Shobhna Samarth, the mother of actresses Nutan and Tanuja (mother of Kajol). She had been living a reclusive life since 1983. She was initially married to the director Virendra Desai in the 1940s but later on she remarried actor Prabhu Dayal with whom she acted in numerous movies.

It is shocking that someone close to a prominent Bollywood family died a lonely death and municipality people took her after wrapping her in her own bedsheet. RIP Nalani Jaywant. Here’s a beautiful song dedicated to her:
