German Production company Rapid Eye Movies has picked Peepli Live for distribution in Germany. After the well-known film distribution company Fox Star Studio bought My Name Is Khan now its the turn of a German Production company. Indian movies are certainly making global inroads.
Peepli Live, which was recently screened at a film festival in Germany was purchased by the film distribution company after it was praised and received well by various critics at the film festival. Speaking about buying the distribution rights of the film in Germany, Stephan Holl, founder of Rapid Eye Pictures said, “We are very happy to bring to the German audience a true Indian art house film that entertains whilst telling a serious story.”
Peepli Live is one of those film, which is being shown at various prestigious international festivals across the globe much before its release in Indian cinemas. Apart from Berlin Film festival, the film has also been shown at the Sundance Film Festival.
What Fox Star Studio and Rapid Eye Movies has shown by buying My Name Is Khan and Peepli Live respectively is that Bollywood movies are being accepted globally and more international companies are coming forward to buy these film. Of course, the difference between Fox Star Studio buying My Name Is Khan and Rapid Eye Movies buying Peepli Live is that whereas the Fox Star Studio bought the worldwide distribution rights of My Name Is Khan, Rapid Eye Movies will be buying Peepli Live for screening in Germany only.
With the kind of profit Fox Star Studio has earned with My Name Is Khan, it must have encouraged many more international film production and distribution companies to invest in Bollywood. Now, if Peepli Live proves to be a profitable deal for Rapid Eye Movies, which has picked up the film in Germany, it would open a new market for Bollywood in Germany.
