Priyanka Chopra
National award winner Priyanka Chopra kicked off the "Save Girl Child’ campaign” in New Delhi. This venture was started by ‘The Sun Foundation’.
Priyanka Chopra said to the reporters in New Delhi, "The campaign which is kick-started by ‘The Sun Foundation’ is very important in today’s scenario. We are aware but the conditioning, which we had till now, teaches us that the girls are not very important and the male child is always wanted." She expressed her views further, "This thinking should be eradicated. To know that if you give your girl child an opportunity then she can develop her potential, that she can be as successful as a boy."
The Sun Foundation is a charitable organization that is committed towards making a change with respect to the Girl Child. Currently sex determination tests are banned in India but still such practices are flourishing and the killing of female foetuses continues in some regions of India where a preference for sons runs deep. That’s why actor Priyanka Chopra has launched a campaign against the menace of female foeticide and female infanticide.
She also asked some soul searching questions, ”I was wondering what if my parents did not want to bring me into this world?” ‘The fate of a girl child is sealed the minute the parents come to know the sex of the child but a girl child can conquer the world.’
Priyanka again asked, ”We keep advocating to save the girl child but the situation is still grim. It is shocking that sex ratio in urban areas is as skewed as in rural ones.”
Priyanka, also received the National Award for best actress for Fashion and she also released a music album sung by her father Ashok Chopra. The album is titled as ‘Haal Mureeddan Da Kehna.’ It is a collection of Shabads sung by Mr Chopra.
