Ranbir Kapoor and Shahrukh Khan
Ranbir Kapoor has supported Shahrukh Khan against Shiv Sena.
Ranbir Kapoor has openly come out in support of Shahrukh Khan in his fight against Shiv Sena and has praised Shahrukh for standing up to political party in the controversy regarding the inclusion of players from Pakistan in the IPL cricket tournament.
Speaking about the issue at a Media event recently, Ranbir said, "I think Shahrukh was absolutely right in the way he did not bow down to anyone. He was not wrong in his belief and did not need to apologize to anyone. I would like to believe that I would have stood up against the Thackerays the very same way if something like that would have happened to me."
Ranbir’s comments are significant as the Bollywood actor faced similar opposition for his film Wake Up Sid, when Maharashtra Navnirman Sena opposed the used of the word Bombay in the film.
Pointing out that there was nothing unusual about the use of the word Bombay, Ranbir said, "We used the word Bombay in the film and the MNS party opposed it. But the movie is fiction and cinema is a part of somebody`s vision. I so many times say Bombay in stead of Mumbai and because I`ve grown up with the word."
Ranbir felt that the kind of opposition Shahrukh and he himself had to face from Shiv Sena and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena was a direct attack on the creative freedom of an artist. But Ranbir does not know what to do about this tricky situation because according to him, “Groups such as these are very powerful and at least I don’t know how to stop them.”
So, with Ranbir speaking in his favor, there is more support for Shahrukh against Shiv Sena. But, it makes you wonder how these comments will affect Rabir? Hopefully, after these comments Ranbir does not become the target of Shiv Sena and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena that too when his professional career is shaping up well.
