In the season of elections, it is not very uncommon for Bollywood stars to have a makeover from trendy international look to the very desi one and wear a white kurta pajama to either enter the election fray or campaign for some political party or candidate.
But, its good to find that contrary to the ‘Star Appearances’ made by many stars in elections, which actually has no real significance, importance or impact on the common man, many Bollywood stars have, off late come forward to campaign for various causes having both political and social significance.
It all started with Aamir Khan who, along with some little kinds, became a part of a campaign urging people to come forward and vote in the upcoming general elections. Shahrukh Khan was quick to chip in his bit in an interview with a television news channel, where he also urged voters to exercise their democratic right. And now, both these mega stars have put aside their differences and joined hands to come forward in support of producer’s demand for equal share in revenue from the collections made in multiplexes.
What is eve more encouraging is that through the rest of the stars may not be getting all that publicity for their work as Aamir Khan and Shahrukh Khan get, they are not shying away from their social and moral obligations. Recently, for example, Kajol, Shiney Ahuja, Rahul Bose, Lara Dutta and others shared a common platform to advocate for right to education for all kids in an event called Shiksha 2009. Similarly, in another event, Akshay Kumar took to the centre stage, appealing to the people of Mumbai to keep the city pollution free.
Though, it is good to see so many celebrity Bollywood stars contributing to the social causes, how many of us take them seriously and act upon their advise, is a matter of a altogether different debate.
