Hrithik Roshan and Aisharya in Jodha Akbar

Like it has been the trend for the past few years, year 2008 saw both conventional and unconventional films doing well at the Box Office, which once again proved that irrespective of what kind of cinema it may be, a good film is a good film. The year saw all kinds of movies from historic to comedy and from revenge to romantic being liked by the viewers.

The year started with Ashutosh Gowarikar’s ‘Jodha Akbar’ with Hrithik Roshan playing the role of Akbar with such grace and elegance that it left everyone spell-bound.

If you were to find one trendsetter for the year passed by, it would be that the audience accepted movies like Dostana and Fashion that depicted the not so accepted gay relationships. Though the box office collections of Dostana are still acceptable since it depicted the issue in a light-hearted manner, but the success of Fashion, which showed the serious side of what’s happening in the fashion world is a welcome surprise.

Its always great to see some light-hearted comedies, which are a total time pass, do well at the box office. The success of films like Singh Is King, Welcome to Sajjanpur and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi did well at the Box Office. It shows that the viewer of Hindi Cinema goes to enjoy a film and if you serve him with a comedy, he will accept it willingly.

The audiences got the taste of different kind of films and enjoyed them thoroughly. Simple romantic films ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’ and ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’, and a trendsetter like Rock On drove every one to the ticket window.

Its not only comedy but action film like Ghajini also had historic collections. Some other films like Phoonk and A Wednesday also had a good run.
