Kites has failed to impress fans in India.
Though seven months still remain before the year ends, when the performances of movies released in 2010 will be reviewed, Kites will features as a big looser at the Box office. The film has failed to impress viewers back home in India.
The Reliance Big Pictures, who are the worldwide distributor of the film, are said to have paid Rs. 150 cr for the releasing the film in India, will now be finding it tough to let their balance Sheet come into public glare because of the heavy losses they had to bear because of this film. Kites, which opened to a collection of Rs. 10.4 cr on the first day and Rs 8.6 cr on the second day was able to manage an overall collection of only Rs. 30 cr at the end of the first week of its release. Though there are no big releases at the box office even this week, analysts say that they do not expect Kites to gain much as a result of that.
But, if you think that the film is going to recover its losses in India with the grand business overseas, you are wrong there as well. After a grand opening in USA and UK, the film’s collection even in these countries has also taken a considerable hit.
The film’s failure especially in India is not good news for both Hrithik Roshan and his father Rakesh Roshan. Whereas Hrithik hoped that Kites being his first release after two years, when people saw him in Jodha Akbar, would draw all his fans to theatres, producer Rakesh Roshan hoped to recover the losses he suffered with the failure of his last production Krazy 4 with this film. But that was not to be.
Both Rakesh and Hrithik had huge expectations from Kites. The film’s failure in India is a real bad news for them.
