Dilip Kumar and Madhubala in Mughal-e-Azam

Mughal-E-Azam has completed 50 years of release.

A few well known people of their time, who can easily be termed as legends now, came together when they recalled their memories of being associated with one of the best film to hit the silver screen ever, Mughal-E-Azam, which recently completed 50 years of its release at the box office.

One of the important persons to grace this historic occasion was the man, who was an inseparable part of the film and played the immortal character of Salim in the film, the legendary Dilip Kumar himself. Recalling the making of the film, Dilp said, "Mughal-e-Azam was totally different experience. Asif trusted me enough to leave the portrayal of Salim completely to me. The shooting in Rajasthan was most memorable in itself. Imagine my state with my entire body covered by armor in the desert heat."

The actor said that looking back, neither then nor now did he ever felt that the film took nine years in making. He said, “Such was the all-round commitment in the making of the film that nobody saw the delay as tiresome. We were experienced enough to understand that a film involving such overwhelming craftsmanship, minute detailing, massive gathering of artistes and unit hands, strenuous schedules with large units of artistes and trained animals, day and night shoots cannot be a simple affair.”.

He added, “The entire unit understood that making a historic film like Mughal-E-Azam was a great responsibility but the kind of hard work we had put in made us believe that our hard work would finally pay-off.”

Others like Naushad, who composed the music of Mughal-E-Azam also graced the occasion.

Definitely getting back together and sharing memories of those good old days must have been very special for all those who worked on Mughal-E-Azam 50 years back.

Winners of IIFA award have been announced.

The winners of much-awaited IIFA awards, which were held between June 3-5 at Sri Lankan capital Colombo have been announced.

Whereas much on expected lines, Amitabh Bachchan won the best lead male actor’s award for his role in Paa and Rajkumar Hirani took away the best director’s award for his work in 3 Idiots, there were a few surprises when it came to some other awards.

But probably, Rajkumar Hirani was more lucky than Mr. Bachchan as he won two awards. Apart from being the best director, Hirani also won the trophy of best story for 3 Idiots, which he shared with Abhijat Joshi. His film 3 Idiots got the most number of awards when it won the technical awards for Best Screenplay and Best Cinematography. The film also helped Boman Irani win the award for best negative role and Sharman Joshi, who got the award for best supporting actor for 3 Idiots when he beat strong contender like Abishek Bachchan for his powerful performance in Paa.

Vidya Balan had a mixed fortune at IIFA this year and though she won the best female lead award for her work in Paa, she had to share this award with Kareena Kapoor, who was judged the joint winner of the lead female award for her work in 3 Idiots.

The award for best performance in a comic role went to Sanjay Dutt for his role in All the best. The award for both best female debutant and best male debutant were shared by two people. While the award in the female category was shared jointly by Jacqueline Fernandez for Alladin and Mahie Gill for Dev D , the award for best male debutant went to  Omi Vaidya and Jackky Bhagnani for their work in 3 Idiots and Kal Kissne Dekha respectively.

The awards ceremony had couple of other surprises in store. Whereas A R Rehman had swept all other awards for his music in Delhi 6, the jury at IIFA thought that Pitam’s music in Loive Aaj Kal was better than all others. Among the other music awards, Swanand Kirkire took home the award for best lyrics in 3 Idiots.  The music category also had award for best female singer, which went to Kavita Seth for Iktara in Wake Up Sid and the award for the best male playback singer, which went to Shaan for the song Behti Hawa Sa Tha Wo in 3 Idiots.

IIFA also honored veteran producer-director J Om Prakash and Zeenat Aman, the lead lady of the 1980’s, who took away many hearts with her beauty with Lifetime achievement award.

Vivek Oberoi

Vivek Oberoi has urged Bollywood stars to come to Sri Lanka.

Amidst reports that after the request made by Tamil groups both in India and Sri Lanka asking more and more stars to boycott IIFA awards, no big star plans to be in Colombo this week, Bollywood star Vivek Oberoi has come forward in support of the organizers and asked the Hindi film industry to come to Sri Lanka and attend IIFA awards ceremonies between June 3-5.

While promoting IIFA awards, Vivek, who has already reached Colombo said, “I request all Bollywood stars to come to Colombo since I do not believe in boycotting awards. Bollywood films believe in building bridges, not putting up walls against people."

Vivek said that by its presence at the event, Bollywood can play a significant role in building the economy of the country that has seen an internal war and also do something for the Tamil people of Sri Lanka, who are in desperate need of help.

Though Vivek does not hold a position of  influence in any case, his urging stars to come to Sri Lanka to attend IIFA awards has not made much difference as more and more Bollywood stars including Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan have already made clear that they have no plans to book their tickets to Colombo this week.

Jacqueline Fernandez

Jacqueline Fernandez is very excited about IIFA awards.

Lead female star of Bollywood Jacqueline Fernandez, who made a mark with Alladin is said to be very excited about this year’s IIFA awards, which will be held in the capital of Sri Lanka, Colombo.

Jacqueline, who originally belongs to Sri Lanka, while reacting to the IIFA award ceremony being held in Colombo this year, said, “This is just not any award function for me because I am from Sri Lanka and everyone from the film fraternity is actually coming to Sri Lanka. So, this gives me a chance to welcome the people, who have welcomed me so warmly.”

Jacqueline will be welcoming the Bollywood stars in her own special way when she makers her first stage performance during the IIFA award ceremony.

Since the award ceremony is to be held in Sri Lanka, Jacqueline is keen to take part in every event that takes place on this special occasion. Apart from performing, Jacqueline will also be taking to the ramp during this special event in that country. She says, “I am very excited about being a showstopper for a local designer Yoland and will be walking the ramp for Manish Malhotra.”

Though it is a Bollywood event and she is a part of this of this industry, when it comes to supporting a team in the scheduled cricket match, she says that instead of stars from Bollywood, she will support the Sri Lankan cricket team.

So, with Jacqueline taking part in so many events during the IIFA awards in the capital of Sri Lanka Colombo, it is natural that she is very excited about it.

Salman Khan

Salman Khan is going to perform at IIFA awards this year.

IIFA is going to have a rather unexpected visitor this year as Salman Khan is going to perform at the event to be held in the first week of June this year.

Speaking about being a part of IIFA, Salman said, "I will perform at IIFA and that is why I am going there. I am not too crazy about  getting an award.”

Salman will not only entertain his fans with this performance at this event but he will also raise money for his charity organization Being Human Foundation with this performance.

Salman performing at the IIFA is also special because despite his relation with the Bachchan family, which is closely linked to the IIFA not being very good, he has been given the opportunity to perform and even raise money from this event.This shows that despite being the ambassador of the event, Mr. Bachchan doesn’t overshadow it.

Hopefully, Salman doesn’t only have memorable performance at IIFA but he is able to raise a lot of money through the event.

Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif

Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif will cheer for the same IPL cricket team this year.

The owner of Bangalore Royal Challengers IPL cricket team Vijay Mallya has probably done what every producer from Bollywood dreams of doing right now. He has roped in two biggest Bollywood stars Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone to be a part of the same project. Unfortunately for Bollywood fans though, this is not a movie.

Both Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone has been roped in by Vijay Mallya to cheer for his IPL cricket team Bangalore Royal Challengers.

Sources close to Vijay Mallya said that though both the leading female stars from Bollywood have agreed to cheer for his team, both of them will take up this duty at separate venues and will not come face-to-face at any point of time.

According to the schedule worked out by Vijay Mallya and his close associates for this two Bollywood leading ladies, whereas Katrina will be cheering the team at most venues, Deepika will be with the team for the matches it plays in Bangalore.

Sources add that whereas Katrina has been roped in due to her popularity as a Bollywood star, Deepika has agreed to associate with the team because she is a supporter of Bangalore Royal Challengers.

So, with Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif cheering for Bangalore Royal Challengers, if you are their fan and love cricket as well, your destination should be the stadiums, where Bangalore Royal Challengers are playing their matches.

Salman Khan

Salman Khan was in court as a witness in a case involving his movie Chori Chori Chupke Chupke.

Almost nine years after its release, the controversy regarding 2001 release Chori Chori Chupke Chupke still seems to haunt Salman Khan and other members of the cast and crew associated with the film.

Salman was called by the police to appear before a special court of Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act to verify his statement that he previously gave to police regarding the alleged reports that the film was produced with the underworld money.

Salman, who was called to give his statement regarding the fact that Bollywood financer Bharat Shah had allegedly used underworld money to finance the film, said that he had no idea that whether underworld money had been used in Chori Chori Chupke Chupke or whether Bollywood financer Bharat Shah had invested money into the film.

Salman said he was approached by producer Rizvi and assistant producer Abdul Rahim Allahbaksh, who wanted him to do the film. Salman said he made no other inquiry about the film from the producer apart from the usual inquiry about the storyline and the director.

Salman reportedly added that he had even denied being a part of the movie after he came to know that Chori Chori Chupke Chupke was not being directed by a reputed director but changed his mind and agreed to be a part of the project when Abbas-Mustan were roped in to direct the film.

When asked by the court, Salman said that he did not remember meeting a man named Fazlani, who allegedly had underworld links.

While appearing in the court, Salman seems to have indicated that he was not  associated with Chori Chori Chupke Chupke in any way apart from being an actor.
