Rahman and Gulzar

The entire country, especially the cinema lovers across India were ecstatic when both the music composer A R Rahman and veteran lyric writer Gulzar were nominated for the most prestigious awards in the Hollywood film industry, the Oscars, for their work in the film Slumdog Millionaire.

A. R. Rahman has got three nominations for his music in Slumdog Millionaire, which includes two Oscar nominations for Best Original song including Jai Ho and O Saya. He has also won a nomination from Wail-E. Analysts feel that going by the nominations, A. R. Rahman has a very good chance of being the first Indian to add another feather to his cap by winning the Oscar. Gulzar has also been nominated for Oscars for penning down the lyrics of Jai Ho.

Speaking to the media from London after the announcement of the Oscar nominations, Rahman said that composing for Slumdog Millionaire was like enjoying a holiday because contrary to his work in Mumbai and Chennai, he just had to work for 4 to 5 hours in the evening for 15 days and the soundtrack of the film Slumdog Millionaire was completed. Overwhelmed by the Oscar nomination, he added, “I was like a nervous schoolboy biting my nails. I feel the whole world is watching me. I’m at the top of the world. Honestly I am not even thinking about the Oscars now. Everything is a blur. It’ll be a great energy booster for creative people in India.’’

It is not only Rahman and Gulzar alone, but Slumdog Millionaire has won 10 Oscar nominations, which includes Best Picture, Direction, Film Editing, Original Score, Cinematography, Original Song, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing and Adapted Screenplay.

Aamir Khan in Ghajini

Aamir Khan is a little surprised with the success of Ghajini. When asked about it’ he said, “I always knew ‘Ghajini’ would fetch a big start, but I didn’t expect the start to be so huge. I am surprised,”

Aamir has attributed the success of the film to the director of the film, A.R. Murugadoss and his good script, the excellent marketing of the film and to the fact that he only works in one film a year.

He felt that since he works only in one film a year, his fans never get enough of him and are curious whenever his film is due for release. Aamir also said that by working in just one film at a time, his concentration level in higher and he can do justice to all his characters.

Agreed Aamir. But how about giving some credit to Asin and Ziah Khan also?

Aamir Khan and Sachin Tendulkar

It is often said that comparison is not a good thing to do as it brings out the negativity or the worst within you and creates a feeling of competition, hatred, jealousy and what not.

But as there are exceptions to every rule, the comparison between these two men as two successful perfectionists, that they are known to be, has always been for positive Moreover rather than a feeling of hatred and jealousy, when it comes to these two men, comparison has always created a feeling of mutual admiration among the two.

Right, the two men being mentioned here are the two present day legends of their respective fields, Sachin Tendulkar and Aamir Khan. Though, Aamir might have congratulated Sachin for his batting on a number of occasions and Sachin might also have liked many of Aamir’s films, this time around Sachin admired and praised Aamir for an altogether different reason – for his looks and muscular body in Ghajini.

In fact, when Sachin saw Aamir’s look in Ghajani for the first time, he is said to have got very confused and assumed thinking that the picture perfect appearance of Aamir was actually digitally mastered because Sachin had met Aamir sometimes prior to that and had failed to notice that the actor had such a spectacular body. But, when Sachin, who incidentally is a good friend of Aamir’s called him up to tell him how splendid did the actor looked in ‘The digitally mastered Ghajini look’, he was in for a pleasant surprise when the actor told him that these were original muscles attained after a year of rigorous training and hard work.

It is now learnt that both Aamir and Sachiin have had some secret meetings where the latter not only got a few tips on how to make 6 abs muscles but also got his wish to see Ghajini fulfilled. The cricket maestro is said to have been all praise for the film and also the performance of Aamir Khan.
