Review: Blue (2009)
Starring: Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt, Lara Dutt, Zayed Khan, Katrina Kaif
Director : Anthony D’Souza
Musician : A R Rahman

This week saw one of the biggest films of 2009 get released at the Box office as Blue hit the theatres this Friday.

If the promotional videos seem to suggest to you that Blue has been made on a large scale, you are actually right in your analyzes.

Blue is a story of two friends, Sagar (Sanjay Dutt), who is a very simple man and a rich and an ambitious business Aarav [Akshay Kumar].

The story also has another character, Sam, who unintentionally unearths a mafia in Bangkok and since he has a fear of his life in Bangkok, he flees to Bahamas so that he can be saved by his brother Sagar.

With some scenes in the beginning itself that remind you some of the most interesting features that you might have watched on channels like National Geographic Channel or Animal Planet, the film has been well shot. On a whole Blue is a simple story, which has been shot so well that it’s a treat for your eyes. Whether it’s the underwater sequences, or the action sequences or the bikes chase, everything has been shot beautifully.

The film has been made well technically with most people working behind the camera doing their job to perfection. Whether its direction of debutant director Anthony D’Souza or the cinematographers Pete Zuccarini and Laxman Utekar,  everyone has done a fairly decent job.

Of course, one person behind the camera, who would like to forget Blue, is music composer A R Rehman. In any case, the scope of music in a film like Blue is very limited. Yet, with one hit number, Chiggy Wiggy, Rehman seems to have done his job. Another person, who probably can be blamed of spoiling the show is the story teller or the writer, whose story becomes very loose in the end.

Of course, one other drawback in the film is Kylie Minogue, whose appearance is rather too small, which leaves you saying, Yeh Dil Maange More.

As far as people in front of the camera are concerned, as expected, the film belongs to Sanjay Dutt and Akshay Kumar. With their performances, the two leave the rest of the star cast far behind.
