After 3 Idiots and Paathshaala, Admission Open is the third film, which talks about the problems and faults of the present day education system and the pressure it puts on the students. Though the thought behind the film was extremely noble, director K.D. Satyam has made a complete mess of the idea.
This film is a story of Professor Tariq Siddiqi (Anupam Kher), who being disappointed by the orthodox education system of the present day, wants to start a college, where students can pursue their dreams. The film also narrates a tale of Arjun (Ankur Khanna), an under achieving student, who does not believe in the present grading system, which is used to judge the performance of the students.
Very early into the film, you as a viewer realize that this film is heading towards no where. And when you come out after watching a film, which has no beginning, no story that develops and no proper conclusion and ending, your fear that the film is heading no where actually comes true. At some points, the makers totally go clueless about what they are doing. For example, all students of the institution shown in the film have strange concepts and understanding and take-up even stranger professions like bhaigiri, godmen, script writing, cookery, politics and music. The film also shows some bizarre situations like the one where you as audience fail to understand how do students suddenly turn into teachers?
The music director of the film Amit Trivedi fails to give any number that you can remember after leaving the theatre. The story and direction by K.D. Satyam is also very weak and fail to impress you in any way.
But, the biggest disappointment of the film is Anupam Kher. After watching him in Admission Open, you feel like asking him that being one of the finest actors in the industry, what was the need for him to be a part of this film. Other major actors of the film including Ankur Khanna, Pramod Moutho and Sudesh Berry have given a decent performance.
Admission open starts like a serious issue based film but in the end turns out to be a total waste of time and money.
