Starring: Shahid Kapoor, Genelia D’Souza, Mohnish Behl and Parikshit Sahani
Bollywood is a land of dreams, where so many aspiring actors come on a daily basis hoping to make it big. Only a couple of years back, you saw Naach, story of a struggling choreographer and then last year, you had the story of a struggling actor in Luck By Chance, both of which highlighted this issue. Chance Pe Dance too is one such story of a person, his dreams, his aspirations, his struggle and finally in the end his triumph.
But unfortunately, with a very predictable story that fails to attract your attention at any stage and the slow pace at which it has been told, Chance Pe Dance fails to deliver at any point of time.
Chance Pe Dance is a story of gifted, zealous, optimistic and energetic boy Sameer (Shahid Kapur), who goes round doing various jobs, hoping to make it big in film industry. And though in this difficult journey, he has to face many problems and ups and down, with his never die spirit, dynamic outlook and talent, he overcomes all the obstacles to eventually fulfill all his dreams. Sameer is helped in this difficult voyage by Choreographer Tina [Genelia D'Souza] and finally realizes that life gives you just one chance to make it big.
The biggest problem with the film is its weak story, which has been told thousands of time earlier. The story of a struggling actor, which Chance Pe Dance tries to tell has been seen and heard so many times that people are tired of watching it. What is even more tiring is the climax, where the makers do not put any pressure on your intellectual capacity by showing the most predictable happy ending where the lead male character fulfills all his dreams.
The story could have still made some impact on the viewers had the director stuck to the original plot and shown the struggle of an actor. But the makers have failed even on that front. By mixing the story of a struggling actor with that of choreographer and difference between father and son, the makers have not only deviated from the original story but made the film slow and lethargic.
Moreover certain aspects of the film like the Monish Bahl track where he dumps Shahid after signing him but later praises him on being successful, look quite odd.
Though, there is nothing extraordinary about his direction, Ken Ghosh has shown his talent by filming certain scenes exceptionally well. For example, the scene before the interval, where Shahid finds solace in his students has been filmed brilliantly and stands out in the film.
The film’s music by Adnan Sami is just okay but there is not even a single track, which can be remembered when you come out of the hall after watching the film. For a film like Chance Pe Dance, an exceptional track, which stands out and helps the film at the box office, is an utmost necessity. But, unfortunately Chance Pe Dance lacks any such track. The choreography on the other hand by Ahmed Khan and Marty Kudelka is good.
As actors, both Shahid Kapur and Genelia D’Souza have tried their level best to carry the film forward but how far can the lead pair do when the main story of the film itself is weak?
Among the supporting cast, Mohnish Bahl has done a good job and stands out to get noticed. Parikshit Sahani is getting type casted and his role as a father reminds you of some of his earlier performances.
On a whole, since due to the lack of a good story, the film does not excite you more than a reality dance show on a Television channel, you may think twice before wasting your precious time and money on Chance Pe Dance.
