Star Cast of I Hate Luv Stroies: Imran Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Sammir Dattani, Samir Soni, Kavin Dave, Khusboo Shroff, Bruna Abdullah, Ketki Dave, Anju Mahendru, Shirish Sharma
The first point you notice, when you think about I Hate Luv Storys is its title. This title of the film itself is unique because when both the makers and the audience of Hindi films are obsessed with love stories and such film form the biggest hits of the industry, how can one hate them?
As expected, with I Hate Luv Stories director Punit Malhotra comes up with a film that just like most Bollywood films is another love story, which will attract those who visit the cinema halls to watch romantic movies and enjoy them.
The story of I Hate Luv Storys revolves round Jay (Imran Khan), who despite having a strong dislike for love stories has to live with them on a daily basis because he assists a film maker Veer (Samir Soni), who only believes in making films, which have the theme of love. If that was not enough, he also has to work with a new production designer Simran (Sonam Kapoor), who is also a die hard fan of love stories. And why wouldn’t she be when even her real life, with a good job and a loving boyfriend Raj (Samir Dattani), looks more like a story of a romantic film?
To begin with, what director Punit Malhotra gets it right with this film is the casting. Both Imran and Sonam look perfect in their respective roles.
But what the director has failed to understand with this film is that whereas both Imran and Sonam are perfect in their characters, these characters need an interesting story to take the film forward. The story of the film moves very slowly in the first half. It only gains momentum and grabs your attention after the interval.
But, the director has managed to compensate for a rather weak story with well define two main characters, who have been portrayed in a beautiful manner. A love story is considered successful when you fall in love with the lead characters and as the film moves ahead, your desire to see the lead pair together at the end of the movie also increases. What is unique about I Hate Love Storys is that though as a viewer, you know that both the lead characters are eventually going to meet at the climax, you are curious to know how they meet and what twists and turns the story will take till the climax. Moreover, the two characters involve you so much that you really want to see them sorting out their respective life and meeting in the end.
But, along with the two main characters, the director needed to develop some of the other characters, which had a significant role in the film. Say for example, the director needed to develop the character of Sonam’s parents and highlight how she interacts with them. The script fails in doing so.
I Hate Luv Storys also works in its climax. The climax of the film is logical and interesting
I hate Love stories despite being weak at the scripting level works because of then enormous effort put in by both Imran and Sonam. Both of them look fantastic in the film. But if both Sonam and Imran have given their best for the film, so has the director Punit Malhotra, who has carried the film on his shoulders. His efforts as a debutant director needs to be applauded.
I Hate Luv Storys is not a great love story that we have never seen before. But, the young director, with the unique pairing of Imran and Sonam, good direction, some good scenes and excellent music has given a film, which despite being made to target mainly the youth, has something in store for everyone. So, just go and enjoy it.
