Himesh Reshammiya in Radio Shenaz Treasurywala and Sonal Sehgal
Starring: Himesh Reshammiya, Shenaz Treasurywala, Sonal Sehgal, Zakir Hussain, Rajesh Khattar and Paresh Rawal
Director: Ishan Trivedi
As one would expect it to be, being a Himesh Reshammiya film,
Radio is a film that talks about music but alongside, it is also a film that talks about human relationships. This is a story that talks about a man, who separates from his wife meets another woman, falls in love with her but then he is completely confused as he finds that his ex-wife wants to come back to him and start the relation afresh.
This is just another one of those stories that you and I have seen numerous times in Bollywood. The only difference here though is that the story is based in a radio station. The film comes to you in parts, some good, some average and other extremely poor.
The worst aspect of the film though is the script, which is extremely weak.
Radio is about Vivan [Himesh Reshammiya], a successful RJ at a radio station, whose wife Pooja [Sonal Sehgal] seeks divorce from him on grounds of lack of compatibility. Soon Shanaya [Shenaz Treasurywala] enters Vivan’s life and he feels he is falling in love with her. The mistake Vivan makes is that he discusses this new relation with his ex-wife. It is at that point that his ex-wife realizes that she still loves him and cannot see him with another woman. Since Vivan has to make a choice between the two women in his life.
Though, it holds you at places, there is nothing new about the story of Radio, which by itself makes the film boring. Why does a woman, who has just divorced a man, wants him back and why does the other woman, despite loving him so dearly wants to let him go, are a few illogical concepts in the story, which leave you totally confused at the end. Alongside, there are too many songs in the film, which tend to slow down the film.
Of course, some parts like the one at the climax where Vivan expresses his love to Shanaya have been filmed exceptionally well. It is not only the story but also the screenplay of Radio, which is disappointing. Even the direction of Ishan Trivedi is very weak and leaves much scope for improvement.
As the promos of the film tend to suggest, the film belongs to Himesh Reshammiya. But, the bad news for Himesh is that it’s the Himesh Reshammiya the composer, who steals the show in Radio. Himesh Reshammiya, the actor, along with Shenaz Treasurywala and Sonal Sehgal have managed to do a reasonable job. Other main actors of the film including Zakir Hussain, Rajesh Khattar and Paresh Rawal also don’t leave an impression that will last very long in your memory.
