Kajol and Arjun Rampal in We Are Family
Karan Johar deletes a controversial racists scenes from We Are Family.
Producer Karan Johar and director Siddharth Malhotra have decided to delete some controversial scenes from We Are Family, which showed racist attacks against Indians.
Reports suggest that the film had nine minute long portion, which the producer and director felt would remind people of the recent resist attacks against Indian in Australia and therefore needs to be deleted.
Though there have been many films in Bollywood that have dealt with the racist issue, Karan is specially scared that We Are Family may receive very sharp reactions because the story of the film is said to be based in Australia, where the resist incidents against Indians actually took place.
Karan is said to be especially worried about a scene where small children of Indian origin are abused in their school because of the color of their skin. Karan has now asked the scene to be removed from the film because it can create unnecessary controversy, something Karan does not want.
When asked, the director of the film Siddharth confirmed that some scenes of those sorts were shot for the film, which have now been removed. The director added that when the film had been written about two years back, there was nothing wrong in shooting such scenes because Indians did not face racial attacks in Australia at that point of time. But the situation has undergone a change with the time and Karan is of the view that now these scenes can create a lot of controversy.
Though My Name Is Khan has had similar scenes, Karan is nervous about the scenes in We Are Family only because it involves Australia. That’s the reason, Karan has decided to play it safe by deleting the scenes, which could create controversy.
