Peepli Live has been declared the fastest hit in Bollywood.
Peepli Live has surprised everyone by being declared the fastest hit as it was declared a hit within four days of its release. The film, which released in theatres on Friday was declared a hit film by Monday evening.
Whereas according to trade analyst, Peepli Live would have recovered its cost even if it had managed to do business anywhere between 40% to 50%, the box office collections indicate that the film’s collections in the first weekend have easily touched 50% and are expected to be much beyond that figure.
Analysts say that the figures are phenomenal considering that no film on rural background has managed to make this kind of collections at the box office in recent years. The last film on rural background that managed to draw such a huge crowd to theatres was Lagaan. Though, both the films have been produced by Aamir Khan, there is a huge difference between the two film as Lagaan was a commercial film featuring Aamir in the lead role where as Peepli Live has been made on a rather dry subject of farmer suicide with no big star cast to boast of. This makes the success of Peepli Live even more surprising.
Analysts are attributing the commercial success of the film to Aamir’s marketing strategy. They say that Aamir should be complimented for promoting Peepli Live with the same enthusiasm as films like Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, which was produced keeping in mind a totally different set of audiences. The effort put in by Aamir and his team is now showing with a film on rural background going houseful even in big cities.
Though it is yet to be seen how much the film eventually earns, but after being declared the fastest hit, Peepli Live is surely going to bring smile on the face of those, who distributed it.
