Fashion and Dostana and Strike in TV Industry

It seems strike in TV industry is boosting up trade collections at box office. It might be blessing in disguise for film industry.

Though, according to trade analysts and media critics, Fashion and Dostana are good films otherwise also, enabling them to have a good run at the box-office anyway, but the strike in the Television industry has helped them to get better results than what was expected from them by these analysts. Alongside, films released earlier like Golmaal Returns have also been benefited by the strike.

The biggest gainer among all is Dostana, as it has recorded a 80-90% collection in first 3 days of its release. The Cinema owners across India especially the owners of multiplexes in big Metropolitan like Mumbai and Delhi are very happy with their business is booming as a result of this strike.

Well, if the strike continues, other big films like Yuvraj, Rab Ne Banna Di Jodi and Ghajni are going be hugely benefited as more people bored of watching the repeat telecast of the same programs on Television are expected to be drawn towards the theaters. The producers of these big budgeted movies may even consider of releasing their movies before the scheduled date if they find that the strike of television producers is helping them too.

But as someone’s loss is other person’s gain, the gain of film producers and multiplex and other cinema hall owners is someone’s loss also. And unfortunately, that someone in this case is you and me, the middle class household people, who are not regular cinema goers or feel that shelling out a sum of two hundred twice or thrice a week just to watch a movie is nothing but waste of money.

Some Connection between Dostana and Fire?

Sometimes, they say, for the rich and the famous, controversies rather prove advantageous, as they keep you in the news and draw other people’s attention towards you. Well, if that is really true then Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham must be hoping that in order to bail their sinking carrier, something of such sort does happen with their film Dostana also.

Though, a major factor that may help them in their cause is the timing of the release coincides with a very important development, which is similar to the storyline of this film. The film is being released in the week when Delhi High takes up the issue of lifting the ban on homosexuality and legalizing it. If the differences between the health ministry and home ministry over legalizing homosexuality do come up in open and hit the headlines, it may give a major boost to the film.

One thing that needs to be kept in mind though, is the fact that all you who expect this to be a kind of a repetition of Shabna Azmi Nandita Das starrer ‘Fire’ are in for a big disappointment. Unlike ‘Fire’ which invited criticism from all quarters because of the way it depicted serious lesbian relationship between two ladies who were neglected by their own husband and family, Dostana is actually a comic flick where the two character played by Abhishek and John are said to have just ‘Pretend’ to be gay couple in order to rent a house. In fact, the film may even draw a flak from homosexuals as it may end up making fun of same sex relationships.

But, irrespective of what the film has to offer, what people need to understand that its just a film, a story which may or may not have anything to do with reality. The film may either end up advocating the cause of homosexuality or it may eventually make fun of it, but in both the circumstances, hopefully it will be taken in the most spirited manner by all.

Dostana Between Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham

If you thought it was only the online chemistry between Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham that has become the talk of the town, think again. The duo, who portray a gay couple in the new Karan Johar flick Dostana, not only enjoyed each other’s company on screen, but also had an awesome time together off-screen. This was revealed by none other than their female co-star in Dostana Pyiyanbka Chopra. Speaking at a TV show hosted by Karan Johar, Priyanka said that during the shooting of the Dostana, the duo were so busy chatting and sharing jokes with each other that they hardly took notice of the rest of the unit and poor Priyanka felt totally left out. Produced by Karan Johar and directed by his assistant Tarun Mansukhani, Dostana stars Abhishek Bachchan, John Abraham and Priyanka Chopra
with a special cameo by Bobby Deol.
Well, all one can say is, leaving out Priyanka may not be a big issue but if the duo did the same while Aishwarya and Bipasha were around, I guess then they are in deep, deep trouble.
