Mumbai actors learn Tamil for ‘Leelai’

Whenever Hindi speaking actors work in southern movies (and they do work a lot in southern movies, especially the gorgeous female stars) they are mostly told to utter "one-two-three-four-five" and then the lip-sync artists adjust the diologues accordingly. But two Hindi speaking film actors, Shiv Pandit, a radio jockey, and Mansi Parekh, a TV star, are learning Tamil to play their parts in the film Leelai well.

According to Shiv Pandit,

In a way, ‘Leelai’ is a symbol of modern times as a Mumbaiite, Gujaratis and Tamils are collaborating to make it. Like modern day multiplexes uniting films of various genres under a single roof, this film has brought us together for a project in a language hitherto unknown to us.

Similar sentiments are echoed by Mansi, who previously worked in India Calling and is currently involved with Remote Control,

To take the analogy further, like dubbed movies from different languages help audiences to comprehend unknown tongues, we too want to emote properly by understanding what we utter because that would add value to our performances.
