Indeed, romantic films like Gori Tere Pyaar Mein have their own audiences, who love these kind of movies. Though in most Rom-com stories, the viewers usually know the conclusion of the story, it is the execution, the various attractive scenes, sequences and the chemistry between the lead pair, which attracts everyone to theaters.
A lot of directors theses days are trying to make realistic romantic films, whose stories are based in Indian urban set-up. Though Gori Tere Pyaar Mein is another such attempt, which showcases the mindset of Indian urban youth, the second part of the story shifts to the rural set-up. This movie also highlights the fact that all individuals think differently in a given situation.
The way director Punit Malhotra has shown two youth with urban ideology in a rural set-up, really looks exciting in Gori Tere Pyaar Mein. The story highlights how two youth with different thinking pattern, come together to help people from a village. It also showcases the fact that whether it is rural or urban India, greedy and self-centered people exist everywhere and so do those, who take them on.
Gori Tere Pyaar Mein is a story of an engineer Sriram [Imran Khan], who is a spoilt brat and often gives headache to his father. Finally, his parents decide that the only way to make their son a decent and a responsible man, is to get him married. The parents arrange a match for him in the form of Vasudha (Shraddha Kapoor). Though Sriram likes the girl, Vasudha tells him that she loves another man. When Vasudha asks him, Sriram tells her that indeed, even he had met a girl named Dia [Kareena Kapoor], whom he liked a lot.
In Gori Tere Pyaar Mein, the director ensures that his love story has a different twist with no villain opposing it. Director Punit Malhotra has made sure that no one can accuse him of being a copycat and being influenced by other makers.
The beginning of Gori Tere Pyaar Mein reminds you of I Hate Luv Stories, the last directorial venture of Punit but then you tend to enjoy as it moves on because it takes a different shape altogether. Some scenes like the one where the director shows the initial interaction between Kareena and Imran, including the traffic jam scene and the scene outside the mall building, have been filmed so well that they win your heart. All the interactions between Shraddha and Imran have also been shown in an impressive manner.
The screenplay of Gori Tere Pyaar Mein in the second half, including the climax, is not as impressive as it could have been, indicating that the writers could have done a better job. But on an overall basis, the viewer feels satisfied with the way the story ends.
Despite the fact that the story and screenplay have some weak points, you cannot deny the fact that Punit Malhotra has shown his capabilities as a director with this film. Gori Tere Pyaar Mein also boasts of excellent music, excellent background score and excellent cinematography.
As mentioned above, just like I Hate Luv Stories, in Gori Tere Pyaar Mein as well, Imran’s character grows from an irresponsible boy to a matured man. He has understood his character and played it well.
While playing this character of a focused social worker, Kareena herself needed to be focused. That’s precisely what she has done and made the full use of the opportunity she got with this film. Kareena has quite a few dramatic scenes in Gori Tere Pyaar Mein and she has shown her acting capabilities in them.
No, this is not a cameo for Shraddha Kapoor because she has a full character in the first half of Gori Tere Pyaar Mein. Shraddha does a decent job in the film.
Among the remain star-cast, Sujata Kumar, Nizhalgal Ravi, Manoj Bakshi and Neelu Kohli leave an impact with their roles. Anupam Kher does a great job as the villain in Gori Tere Pyaar Mein.
On a whole, you can call Gori Tere Pyaar Mein a refreshing romantic film. Though the second half may not be as good as you could have hoped, yet this is an original concept, which the viewers will enjoy.
