They remained business partners in the IPL franchise and were often seen together at the auctions.Ness Wadia belongs to an influential business family of India. Suchitra Sen

Suchitra Sen

Veteran actress and the iconic Bengali beauty Suchitra Sen passed away in Kolkata on Friday after suffering from a cardiac arrest. With her beauty and talent she had done memorable roles in films like ‘Agnipariksha’, ‘Devdas’ and ‘Saat Paake Bandha’ Suchitra Sen was one the most successful heroines of Bengali and Hindi cinema between the 1950s and 70s. was born on April 6, 1931 to Karunamoy Dasgupta and Indira Devi, in Pabna district of Bangladesh. After retirement she turned a recluse to the world and was often compared to Hollywood icon Greta Garbo, who shunned public contact. In 1963, Sen became the first Indian actress to be honoured at an international film festival – best actress award for ‘Saat Paake Bandha’ at Moscow film festival.

Suchitra Sen was so popular with the people that during Durga Puja, idols of Lakshmi and Saraswati were known to have been modelled on her face. Her first film was ‘Shesh Kothai’ in 1952. She also received a National Award for her performance in Bimal Roy’s 1955 Hindi classic ‘Devdas’, playing the role of ‘Paro’ to Dilip Kumar’s ‘Devdas’. Initially, Sen was more interested in singing than in acting. In 1951, she auditioned as a playback singer, but was instead offered a role by director Sukumar Dasgupta.

She formed a romantic pair with Bengali cinema legend Uttam Kumar. The duo gave a string of memorable hits such as ‘Harano Sur’ (1957), ‘Agnipariksha’ (1954),’Saptapadi’ (1961), ‘Grihadaha’ (1967), ‘Indrani’ (1958), ‘Sagarika’ (1956), ‘Bipasha’ (1962), ‘Kamal Lata’ (1969), ‘Alo Amar Alo’ (1972), ‘Har Mana Har’ (1972) and ’Priyo Bandhabi’ (1975).

Suchitra Sen’s most famous Hindi film after ‘Devdas’ was ‘Aandhi’ by Gulzar. She earned wide acclaim for her role opposite Sanjeev Kumar in the film. This film also landed in controversy due to similarities between her character and Indira Gandhi.

After her 1978 movie ‘Pronoy Pasha’ with Soumitra Chatterjee flopped, Suchitra Sen left the limelight and even allegedly refused the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2005 it required her to make a public appearance.

She was paired against Uttam Kumar in ‘Sharey Chauttar’ which went on to become a big box office success. This film is still remembered today for launching the magnificent pair of Uttam Kumar and Suchitra Sen, which went to become the iconic screen-couple of Bengali cinema for over two decades.

She was a follower of the Ramakrishna Mission order. After retirement, Sen spent her time in meditation and prayer. In 1989, when Bharat Maharaj of the mission passed away, she was seen publicly walking all the way to the crematorium from Belur Math near Kolkata.

West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamta Banerjee paid rich tribute to Suchitra Sen. She said, “Today is a sad day for all of us. With her passing away we have lost a colossal figure. Her family wants a quiet funeral arrangement for her. We need your cooperation to respect their wish.”

Sen’s funeral will take place at Keoratala Crematorium and a gun salute will be accorded to the legendary actress. Mamta Banerjee used to regularly visit the hospital to inquire about Sen’s condition. In fact, Mamta Banerjee was the first public figure whom the recluse actress had met after 35 years.

The movie has surpassed the previous highest-grossing Bollywood film “Chennai Express” starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone.

Whereas it took almost four years for any other star to break his record at the box office, which he had set with 3 Idiots, Aamir is threatening the new records within just four months.

Creating Dhoom at the Box office, the third film of the series is on its way to breaking one record after another. Matching up to the expectations, the film had a grand opening and made Rs 35 Crore on the first day and around Rs 107 Crore in the first weekend. Lead pair of Jackpot Sachin and Sunny

Star Cast of Jackpot: Naseeruddin Shah as Boss
Sunny as Maya
Sachiin Joshi as Francis
Bharath as Anthony D’Souza
Makrand Deshpande
Manish Wadhwa
Sumit Kumar
Daniel Weber

Director: Kaizad Gustad

Jackpot is the new film by director Kaizad Gustad, who in the past has given movies like Boom. Since the director has come out with a venture after a long gap, the expectations from it are huge.

Jackpot is a thriller, set in a casino in Goa, which also has a comic element to it. This is a story of an amateur gang of young Goan con artists, who play a con, which backfires.

Lead pair of Jackpot Sachin and Sunny

Lead pair of Jackpot Sachin and Sunny

Jackpot starts with a title track, which seems inspired by a Bond film. The story of the movie incorporates mystery and confusion, which makes it interesting. Though, the slow development of the plot is interesting to some extent, after some time, it also tends to confuse the viewer.

The director reveals the main plot slowly by adding to the mystery element, which makes the film interesting. But then the story of Jackpot tends to move forward and backward time and again and this aspect is not appreciated by the viewers. The viewer is left confused as he fails to understand and appreciate so many cons and conmen being shown in the movie.

Heroine of Jackpot Sunny

Heroine of Jackpot Sunny

The screenplay and the pace of Jackpot after the interval are excellent. The writers of the film have done a great job by giving various twists and turns to the story. The direction, photography and background score of the flick are just wonderful.

The songs of Jackpot are excellently placed in the movie and do not affect its pace negatively. The romantic song is one of the highlight of the film.

Jackpot could have looked a little better, if the pace of the first half had been faster. The romantic angle between the lead pair of the movie is also disappointing.

Sunny in Jackpot

Sunny in Jackpot

As is the case with all other movies featuring him, Naseeruddin Shah gives a tremendous performance in Jackpot. Among the other actors Sachiin, Makrand Deshpande and Bharath give a decent performance in the film.
Though the first half is a little weak, you can watch Jackpot for an interesting second half.

Hrithik Roshan, Suzanne Getting Divorced

by admin on December 14, 2013

Suzanne and Hrithik Roshan

Suzanne and Hrithik Roshan

Hrithik Roshan and Suzanne have split and are heading towards a divorce.

Hrithik Roshan has released a note to the press. He stated, “Suzanne has decided to separate from me and end our 17-year relationship. This is a very trying time for the entire family and I request the media and the people to grant us our privacy at this time.” Hrithik Roshan stated further, “I do not wish this news to disempower my fans and the people about the institution of marriage in any way. I am a firm believer in this institution and respect and honour it at the highest level…,”

He also thanked his fans, saying, “And once again I thank my fans for all the concern and prayers for my health, my treatment is going well and I should be able to resume my life in every way very soon. Thank you.”

Suzanne also sent a note to the press. She says, “We are two individuals who respect and care for each other and have made our own individual choices. We are parents to two wonderful kids and our responsibility remains to protect and take care of them.
“Nothing can change that. Would appreciate if we are given our privacy in such a time. Thank you for your warmth and concern for both of us and the family ~ Suzanne.”

The trouble in their marriage was visible for quite sometime but the two always dismissed it as rumors and media imagination. But tongues started wagging when Suzanne moved into Sanjay and Zarine Khan’s bungalow in Juhu. But at that time a source close to the family told media, “Yes, Sussanne is living at her parents’ place since the past week. But there is no problem between her and Hrithik. Her father is really unwell and she is staying there to spend time with him. The Khans do not want unnecessary attention over his illness and have asked their close friends to respect their privacy.”

Though Suzanne’s father Sanjay Khan told media that their separation is not final and they can get back together. They just needed time off each other and needed to think. But if you read Hrithik and Suzanne’s press release, their separation seems final and divorce seems to next logical step.

Hrithik Roshan has also written on his Facebook page about Suzanne. He said, “This is my greatest tribute to love. Sussanne is and always will be the love of my life for the rest of my life. If her smiles are brighter without me my love for her must accomplish that. Unconditional.”

Sanjay Dutt’s parole opposed

by admin on December 10, 2013

Sanjay Dutt’s parole creates controversy. As Sanjay Dutt gets second parole in as many months, many eyebrows got raised with people asking whether he is getting special treatment just because he is a Bollywood star.

While last time around, Sanjay Dutt got the leave on grounds of his own falling health, this time around he has applied for a parole because the health of his wife Maanyata is going down due to heart and liver problems. But as the actor got worried about the health of his wife and hoped to be with her in these tough times, Maanyata herself was seen dancing at the party to celebrate the release of R Rajkumar just a couple of days ago.

In the mean time, protest grew against the parole being granted to Sanjay Dutt, with members of the Republican Party of India agitating outside the Yerawada Central Jail against the frequent release of the actor, who is serving a sentence. The workers of the party showed black flags and shouted slogans saying that the actor should not be given any kind of favorable treatment.

Though the doctors of Maanyata have confirmed that she is not well and needs some family member by her side, this has not impressed those opposing Sanjay Dutt’s parole. Sanjay Dutt, who was convicted in the 1993 Mumbai bomb blast case, has been serving a sentence of 42 months.

Apart from the Republican Party of India, even families of other serving convicts have also opposed the parole of Sanjay Dutt saying that while he is getting out of jail time and again, their family members are not getting the same treatment.

Let’s see what Sanjay Dutt does now.

R Rajkumar : Movie Review

by admin on December 9, 2013

Shahid Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha

Shahid Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha

Star Cast of R Rajkumar:

Shahid Kapoor…. Rajkumar
Sonakshi Sinha…. Chanda
Sonu Sood…. Shivraj
Asrani
Ashish Vidyarthi
Mukul Dev
Srihari
Prabhu Dheva…. Item Number
Charme Kaur…. Item Number
Ragini Dwivedi…. Item Number
Scarlett Wilson…. Item Number

Producer: Sunil A Lulla, Viki Rajani
Director: Prabhu Dheva
Singers: Mika Singh, Kalpana Patowary, Nakash Aziz, Antara Mitra, Kunal Ganjawala, Sunidhi Chauhan,
Arijit Singh, Ritu Pathak

Since there is a general feeling in both those who make and watch Bollywood films that the Masala movies will never go out of fashion, no one stops making them. Despite the fact that many big Masala movies haven’t done well at the box
office in the past some time, the complete entertainers are still being produced in numbers and R Rajkumar is another one of them.

After the grand success of ‘Wanted’, director Prabhu Dheva has come out with one entertainer after another. The only difference between other ventures made by the director and R Rajkumar is that whereas all his other films have been remakes, this one is a rather fresh story, which has been attempted for the first time. There are many people, who feel that R Rajkumar has couple of similarities with Shahid Kapur’s last release Phata Poster Nikla Hero. But what may ultimately work for Shahid, is that this is a fresh story and has no resemblance with any other release of the actor in recent past.

Shahid Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha

Shahid Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha

R Rajkumar is a story of Rajkumar [Shahid Kapur], who works for a drug dealer Shivraj [Sonu Sood] and is given the duty of finishing-off the head of the rival group [Ashish Vidyarthi]. But before he can complete his task, he meets Chanda [Sonakshi Sinha] and the story picks up from here.

Just like all other movies, which are complete entertainers, R Rajkumar showcases a hero, who can do everything, including romancing, singing, dancing, fighting and being emotional. Though the emphasis is on romance, the film has everything, which a lover of Bollywood movie will enjoy. The light-hearted moments and the music are also good and grab the attention of the viewers.

With R Rajkumar, director Prabhu Dheva has once again proved that he is a master of making Masala movies. But this time around he has not got the kind of script, which can be developed into a hit film. There are moments and dialogues in the movie, which draw the attention of the viewers but they are far less in number to satisfy the viewers as a whole.

As mentioned above, the music and the action sequences of R Rajkumar are excellent and form the highlight of the film.
But R Rajkumar fails to attract the viewers because in the past one year or so, people have seen far too many total entertainers and they were not ready to take another one of them at present.

With R Rajkumar Shahid Kapur tries a character, which the masses will enjoy. Whereas he looks good in emotional scenes, romantic scenes and songs, he is a little out of sorts, while taking a shot at action scenes. But as the villain, Ashish Vidyarthi gives the most remarkable performance in R Rajkumar and steals the show among the actors.

For an actor to survive on screen, he or she has to be versatile. The performance of Sonakshi Sinha and Sonu Sood in R Rajkumar is repetitive and stale and therefore fail to impress the viewers. Among the other actors, Asrani, Mukul Dev and Srihari do not get much scope in R Rajkumar. R Rajkumar is a lesson for director Prabhu Dheva since it will make him realize that a total Masala entertainer like this one won’t work every time. This time around, he has failed.

Club 60 : Movie Review

by admin on December 9, 2013

Sarika and Farooq Sheikh

Sarika and Farooq Sheikh

Star Cast of Club 60: Farooq Sheikh, Sarika, Raghuveer Yadav, Satish Shah, Tinu Anand, Sharat Saxena, Vineet Kumar, Suhasini Mulay, Zarina Wahab, Viju Khote, Himani Shivpuri, Harsh Chhaya, Mona Wasu

Producer: Kavee Kumar
Director: Sanjay Tripathi
Singers : Arijit Singh, Raju Singh, Nandini Shrikar, Raghuveer Yadav

Club 60 is a heartwarming tale of five individuals [Raghuvir Yadav, Satish Shah, Tinnu Anand, Sharat Saxena and Vineet Kumar] and how fate brings them together. Each of them is a part of a tennis club and meet a couple [Farooque Sheikh and Sarika] and how they all influence this couple.

The introduction or the speech in the beginning of Club 60 not only gives you an idea of what the film is all about but it also develops a link between various characters you are going to see in the next reels. The director takes this

introduction as the initial point and builds his story around it. The story, screenplay and the direction help in highlighting the lives of various characters including their emotions and the depression they are going through.

Club 60 also shows how people in today’s age think and feel. Though the film is slightly long, the viewer does not get bored because he gets so engaged in the main message that he loses an account of the time. The director has been able to gradually move the story and develop each character in a proper manner. The emotional climax in Club 60 and the optimistic conclusion make the viewer fully satisfied with what they have seen.

As mentioned above, whereas the emotional moments in Club 60 are excellent, the funny moments do not impress you in the same manner. With certain scenes, especially those featuring Raghuvir Yadav, the director tries to make you laugh but these scenes just don’t work. Whereas songs in the film also don’t work anyway, the song featuring Sharat Saxena in the bar is the most boring among the lot.

Whatever may be the fate of their films at the box office, no one can deny the fact that big actors in Club 60 like Farooque Sheikh, Sharat Saxena and Tinu Anand have always left a mark with the roles they have taken-up. This venture is no different for them.

Apart from these three actors, one other actor, who looks exceptional in his role in the film, is Satish Shah. Other actors in Club 60 including Sarika, Raghuvir Yadav, Manubhai, Suhasini Mulay, Vineet Kumar, Zarina Wahab, Himani Shivpuri, Harsh Chhaya and Viju Khote are alright in their respective roles.

Club 60 talks of late-life crises in senior citizens. This is an honest film about emotional journey of friendship, human spirits, warmth and generosity, which must be watched once.

Amitabh Bachchan

Amitabh Bachchan

Amitabh Bachchan is keen to play his own father on the silver screen.

Even as he reaches the age of 71, roles in Bollywood films are still being written keeping Amitabh Bachchan in mind. But if someday, Mr Bachchan was to play a dream role, he would like to play the character of his own father, Harivansh Rai Bachchan on screen.

While taking part in an open question-and-answer session at the Penguin Annual Lecture 2013 in the capital, when he was asked about his favorite role, Mr Bachchan said that if ever a film is made on the biography of his father, he would want to play the lead in it. Mr Bachchan said, “Maybe I’d like to play the role that my father played in his autobiography. It’s a tough call, but I want to try.”

Whenever Mr Bachchan has talked about his father, he has recalled the anecdotes of his celebrated father and his conversation with his father during the childhood. This conversation, which the Bollywood superstar had with one of the most renowned journalist of the country Rajdeep Sardesai was no different.

Mr Bachchan added that his father had once called him as his greatest poetry. He said, “But I do not know whether I am a free verse or a couplet, a chaupai or a shloka.”

So, here is a great idea. If any producer wants to make a film with Mr Bachchan, all he needs to do is to just turn his father Harivansh Rai Bachchan’s autobiography “In the Afternoon of Time: An Autobiography” into a film. But whereas Mr Bachchan will surely play his father in that movie, it would be interesting to see, who plays his role in it. Or, will it be another double role for the Bollywood icon.

Gori Tere Pyar Mein Is Not Doing Well

by admin on December 5, 2013

Kareena Kapoor and Imran Khan

Kareena Kapoor and Imran Khan

Gori Tere Pyar Mein gives flop of the year tag to Imran Khan.

Imagine a person putting his hand on his forehead and trying to recall a forgotten name. “No, No, I am telling you. I know him. Wait, I will just tell you his name.” The manner in which his films are flopping at the box office, don’t be surprised, if in next few years, Bollywood fans recall Bollywood star Imran Khan in this way, when they see him on Television or in real.

2013 has been a rather forgetful year for Imran. When the year started, he would have seen the future in an optimistic way since he was working with people like Vishal Bhardwaj, Milan Luthria and Karan Johar, all of whom are known for making stars in Hindi film world. Though Imran tried his luck with three big film including Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola in the beginning of the year, Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobara in the middle of the year and Gori Tere Pyar Mein as the year came to an end, but the box office fate of these films was the same a flop, a flop and a flop.

Despite a star cast of Kareena Kapoor and Imran, Gori Tere Pyar Mein could never get a start at the box office. Though not many of his films have entered the Rs 100 crore club, producer Karan Johar is known for giving decent hits. But with meager collections of Rs 15 Crore, his new offering is not going to fall into that list.

Gori Tere Pyar Mein and 2013 as a whole have definitely left Imran with a lot to think about.

Among the other releases, whereas Singh Saab The Great made Rs 33 Crore in the first week, the collections of Ram Leela reached Rs 107 crore in 18 days.

Hrithik Roshan going to USA for treatment

by admin on November 29, 2013

Hrithik Roshan is in need of further treatment after surgery and flying to USA.

Hrithik Roshan may be enjoying success at a professional front, but when it comes to health, he is not doing all that well. The Bollywood star, who recently had a brain surgery, is again having problems with the same part of the body and will now be flying to USA for treatment.

Hrithik, who is believed to have had a relapse after the surgery, will reportedly fly to the United States for further treatment of a blood clot on his brain surface. It may be recalled here that the earlier surgery was also for the same purpose.

Though the doctors attending on the Bollywood actor had said that the surgery performed on Hrithik in July was successful, he is still having severe problems due to headache. Giving a reason for it, medical experts also say that the stunts and action sequences performed by Hrithik for Krrish 3 after the surgery, may have affected him negatively.

Reports suggest that Hrithik had contacted his doctors in India recently, who had suggested him to go abroad for further treatment.

Hrithik in a statement said that he hopes that by January next year, he will be back to work and start shooting again. Since both his upcoming films are physically as demanding as Krrish 3, the actor wants to be fully fit before shooting the tough scenes in them. He felt confident that with the good wishes of all his fans, he will be back soon.

Whereas the fans of Hrithik may be worried about his health, they will also be disappointed that his treatment will also delay his next film Bang-Bang.

How about two Amtabh Bachchan hosting KBC

by admin on November 29, 2013

Amitabh Bachchan

Amitabh Bachchan

Amitabh Bachchan is going to play a double role on Television.

You may have seen Amitabh Bachchan in a double role in many films. Some of you may even recall Mahaan, which had the Bollywood superstar playing a triple role. But now in first of its kind both for he himself and Bollywood, the legendary actor will create history by becoming the first actor from the Hindi Film world to appear in a Television show in a double role. As Mr Bachchan wraps-up the present season of Kaun Bangega Carorepati, he will appear in a double role on the show.

In this double avatar, Mr Bachchan will be seen as he himself, who host the show and as an aam aadmi, Lallan Bhaiya, who wears a Dhoti Kurta and a Gamcha tied on his head. Mr Bachchan and the producers of Kaun Bangega Carorepati are calling this as a surprise for the fans of the Bollywood superstar, who regularly tune into this show.

Mr Bachchan, while mentioning about this double role in a post on Twitter, wrote, “And don’t forget the Finale of #KBC … it’s something else !! Aichi shapat !!,”

Surely, the fans of Mr Bachchan are going to tune into this episode not only because they would want to see him in a double role on Television but also because they would have to wait for much longer to see the next episode of Kaun Bangega Carorepati.
